GTR and GWR franchises should be split

What's really needed is for GTR and the other mega franchises like FGW to be broken up in to their component parts. The resulting tocs would be no smaller than the likes of LNER in terms of revenue.

It would be a whole lot easier just to remove the differential fares, as was meant to happen when GTR was formed.

Unfortunately that won't deal with the other areas of lack of management focus, the franchise is just too big and diverse.
The differential fares are a very small fish in a big pond of discontent.

Of course there have been plenty of arguments in the past suggesting there were too many smaller franchises, and bigger franchises were the way forward.

Anyway we're now stuck in a limbo period where no-one quite knows what the future setup of the railways is going to be - franchises aren't really franchises anymore, GBR is still apparently on the cards but quite how those cards look is unclear etc etc
