Do TOCs like GTR ever arrange accommodation nearer to where they host training ? For trainees facing long commutes otherwise. Also is the classroom based part typically Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm ?

So if the trainer is from afar then they won’t want those despite the trainees being Brighton based

The school is officially Hornsey so you’ll be based there unless your lead trainer wants to move it. I’d very much doubt given the current climate that you’d be offered accommodation so spend the 2 hours or so both ways studying/revising

Sorry panic mode has set in as I’m walking distance to Brighton station & tonight is the first I have heard of where the training department is. I was asked if three bridges was an option if it came up before Brighton & just assumed that meant for training

I was told in 2015 training would be at Theee Bridges but it turned out to be at Brighton for rules then Cricklewood for traction (which lasted a good two months!) then with a Brighton DI

Trainees aren't entitled to taxis but eventually they reimbursed us for travel and even agreed to a taxi

when I did my driver training for southern it was mostly at Selhurst but as my trainer was based on the south coast he made full use of Worthing when he could do!
hornsey is the main classroom for TL but it doesn’t mean that’s the only place you’ll train. If it is then the 2 hour journey both ways along with a probable 9-3 day means 9 hour days would become the norm during the 6 months of classroom learning. Make use of this time to read your notes and look through the endless paperwork you’ll receive for training(hopefully you’ll get given an iPad) don’t forget the rear 1st class on 700”s are for standard tickets!
Training is excellent and to be enjoyed, the next 12-18 months will be thoroughly enjoyable so try your best to get the most out of it. But please don’t panic

I didn't train with Southern or GTR but had to travel from Horsham to Reading each day, and used my time on the train to revise or read notes during my rules course. It was actually quite nice to sit in 1st class and have some peace and quiet- and much less stressful than driving a car!

All TL training will pass time through Hornsey as that’s the official school as posted above. You’ll head out as you progress with a DI.

Did the Doctor tell you you'd passed the medical. If so it shouldn't take more than a few days to reach recruitment. I found a polite email to your talent acquisition officer can help chase up some bits. They won't forget about you but it won't hurt.

I've already passed all the assessments with GWR including the MMI. I think I need to sit the DFFT assessment as GWR don't do them.

You'll probably find the first couple of days company induction might be teams. The vast majority of training is in person again now though. Either on Depot or at Lower Thames Street (near monument).

You'll get all the exact Information don't worry. It may well be more about where your trainer likes/prefers to be honest. Hornsey is their main base and has classroom/sim facilities, but if you're lucky it will be nearer home. There's not room on all depots for training though. Cricklewood is a favourite for traction. Rules is often at LTS if not Hornsey. Financially it's better to be away as you'll get Overtime for the travel and usually a meal voucher. I was paid better in rules being away from depot than the rest of my training. Beware filling up at the Hornsey food Van though... It's free if it's not your depot.

I have an interview coming up and I was wondering if anyone has any tips? Is it going to be the basic what do you know about the company and the competency based questions?

Any questions that might be a tricky one that I need to be aware of?

Are they going to be asking about your personality test results?
