I was under the impression that everybody knew that GTA was graphic, at least they should do today. With San Andreas (and particularly the "Hot Coffee" addition) causing so much controversy and effectively banning tha game in some countries, I'd have thought most people would know that they are buying into a game with themes of violence and sex.

Hmm...well, maybe more so now, yes.

But still, it's only a video game! How bad can it be?
I still believe that parents don't really fully understand what they're letting their kids play.
Most parents will get it just to shut their kids up and keep them happy, but how many of those parents have researched the game? Looked it up on the net? Played it themselves? Even read the back of the case?

Do the parents really care?

No.

I think there are a fair few parents that don't care as much as they should.
The whole "chavvy" stereotype of things.

But still, many parents would be shocked if they were to sit down and play the game for an hour or so.

Shocked for 10 minutes or so. Then move on... ;) Like you said, its a game, how bad can it be?

As Gizzy said, it's not a game that I would want to unleash upon young children under 12. It is violent and sexual.

But then again, is it necessarily wrong to expose children to this? Perhaps teaching children about drugs, prostitution and the like from an relatively early age (14, 15 year olds) could make them wiser about the dangers out there? I'm not saying GTA's the perfect medium for doing this, but at the moment it is probably the biggest street education programme for teenagers that is out there.

But it glamourises drug use.

Drugs, sex and the rest should be taught in schools AND by the parents.
Again, GTA is highly influential to kids 18 and under.

I'm sure there's probably been a school playground fad that has been adapted from GTA...

Can't keep them wrapped up in cotton wool, no. But don't let their first impression on drugs and sex be one that glamourises them.

In SA, CJ says all the way through that he doesn't smoke though and despite it all going rather bad towards the end, Scarface glamourises drugs and violence a lot more, throughout most of it someone seems to be doing a massive line of coke.

I think parents buy the game without realising how graphic it is.

Kids as young as 12 are getting their parents to buy the game for them. I bet 9 out of 10 of these parents haven't got a clue what they've just bought their kid. It's an 18 for a reason.

Your starting to sound like a Daily Mail Reporter..... ;)

I said that as an example of what most parents will be thinking when buying their kids this game.

OMG I've just played GTA IV and my young mind has made me take drugs, run people over, have sex with prostitutes to regain health and most of Cheshire Police hunting me down.

All in a cool hours work.

Only just unlocked it? I've nearly completed the game ;)

<sarcasm> Well, I have this thing called a job, where I have to go to a place called work, and at work I do stuff until I can leave and come back home again. Then I get a chance to play GTA. </sarcasm>

I found some of the missions difficult, they took me a while to do, also I've been doing the side missions and unlocking the achievements. Got a problem with that? <(

And I'm only upto the first Packie mission. But then I don't have a PS3 or GTAIV. So I'm not doing bad considering :p

Although that mission is hard :( Where you gotta sniper the guys and keep Packie from getting hurt.

I've only had a couple of quick goes on it. Is there a trick to that mission? Cause I shoot them from the roof, and he gets hurt. Or if I shoot a couple from the roof, and then jump down and SMG their asses, that works better, but still gets hurt.

If you are using a sniper rifle, then it should be a piece of cake. Just aim and zoom in to the enemies and try to kill them with head shots. Oh, don't forget to kill the guy that starts fisticuffs with Packie about halfway through.
Hope this helps Giz!
