GroupSave to Birmingham

Hi all, first post for ages!

Would it be possible for me to buy a GroupSave ticket to Birmingham from Littlehampton provided we used Chiltern or LM from London?

I assume it is, per the GroupSave Map, but I can't force it to show on the ticketing sites.

As long as you don't use XC I don't see why not.

An SVR is £46.20 a pop route +High Wycombe, the route: any permitted is £45.60 a go.

Yes, it works for me using the Greater Anglia site and entering "Birmingham Moor Street BMO to Littlehampton LIT via London Marylebone MYB, choosing 4 Adults, Railcard type = GroupSave 4. I am offered 4 GroupSave Adult Off-Peak Returns route + Any Permitted at £34.55 each, a total of £138.20.

An SVR is £46.20 a pop route +High Wycombe, the route: any permitted valid on Virgin is £45.60 a go.

These fares are Railcard discounted. The Adult Off-Peak Return Birmingham - Littlehampton fares are £69.10 route + Any Permitted (2C) and £70.00 route + Via High Wycombe (WM). Note the different time restrictions.

We don't know how many people will make up the proposed Group. By not specifying that you were using GroupSave 3 fares, you gave me the impression that you expected the OP to obtain a discount on the fares you quoted.

So, just to clarify, GroupSave is valid on Virgin these days? I'm very out of the loop at the minute.

Actually I don't think it is the routing suggests it is but looking at the groupsave map it doesn't appear so.

No. GroupSave is not valid on Virgin. The list of train companies offering GroupSave is here.

If you buy Littlehampton - Birmingham GroupSave tickets, the itinerary will not include a Virgin train. Choose the route + Any Permitted or route + Via High Wycombe to suit the times you want to travel.

The point is often made on this forum that, by neglecting to show the restriction to certain train companies on the ticket, the train companies are breach of NRCoC Condition 10. That is true. It is also asserted that the failure to to show the restriction on the ticket means the ticket is actually valid on a Virgin train. We won't know whether that is true or not until a test case reaches an appropriate Court, and that is unlikely to happen. But attempting to use a GroupSave ticket on a Virgin train is unlikely to give your party trouble-free journeys.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Interesting point regarding validity but someone else will have to be the guinea-pig I'm afraid!
