I'm trying to arange my mates stag weekend and we're looking for the cheapest tickets from Falkirk to Liverpool going on Fri 29th April and coming back on Sun 1st May.

Where the cheapest place to get tickets and can I get group discounts?

Cheers in advance.

I haven't booked a group for a very long time, but there are discounts for 10 or more.
Virgin have a web page about it here
http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/tickets-offers/group-travel/

But it may be cheaper to just buy advance tickets, they should be available soon.
See here for when they are available (look for Virgin trains)
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html
They are only valid on the train specified, but you can probably get tickets for £15 each way.

The tickets should be the same price from any website (although some charge booking fees), or at the station.

It looks like you will get a group discount (for 3-8 passengers) by booking directly with Virgin trains website on the page linked to above, but only for a Virgin only service, so it may not be worth it for you - as you would have to book Falkirk - Glasgow and Wigan - Liverpool separately.

You may also want to check if anyone going has a railcard before you book.

I WISH!

Cheapest i can find is £32.85 going down and £37 coming back so its £69.85 return.

Tried various things to see if it were cheaper booking single tickets instead of returns but for some crazy reason its £59 for a single one way journey?

Tried the group discount via Virgin and booking the other tickets seperately but made it dearer.

Anyone know if i'll get it cheaper than £69.85?

(due to tickets for 29/04/11 not being available yet i'm basing the above prices on the weekend before)

You'll have to wait and see when the tickets are released.

An anytime single (walk-up single ticket) is £59 route PRESTON, £109.50 for ANY PERMITTED. An off-peak return is £65.70 route PRESTON (no time restrictions, but break of journey is only permitted to change trains), £90 ANY PERMITTED (not valid before 0500), so assuming you don't mind going via Preston, that will be the most it'll cost.

The weekend before the 29th is Easter so the cheaper advance tickets could conceivably be gone already for that weekend.

Just as an indication, the lowest theoretical price for the journey is £9.50 with Virgin or £17.50 with East Coast or FTPE (plus connections), but fares at that level are quota-controlled and may not even exist on the trains you want to take.

The 10:44, 12:44 and 17:44 are all showing at £15 (or less) single on the 22/4 (on eastcoast.co.uk).
