Can you obtain group discount by purchasing sufficient amount of tickets on the day from the ticket office or do I have to call SET and arrange group travel? Also according to Avantix I can do group rate on travelcards, is this true?

You've left it too late unfortunately. According to http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/tickets-and-fares/group-travel/group-travel-booking-form/ you need to allow 10 working days notice.

I know it doesn't matter. I asked because I wanted to double-check whether the price you quoted has already been discounted.

Anyhow wouldn't it be cheaper to do Groupsave anyway? Two lots of GS4 cost £129.60 and two lots of GS3 cost £128.40, so £258 in total.
