Grey splodges!

Hi all, not been on the train for a while..just noticed and meant to post..

Why are the the XC and Avanti voyagers covered in grey spots? Is it a cover up for rust? They seem to be all over the carriages. Also coming past Bombardier in Burton this afternoon, at least 6 sets of both XC and Avanti in. Are a lot of services missing carriages or is this normal? Do the XC HST's get an airing still or have they stopped now?

I don't know about the grey spots unfortunately but I know Avanti don't heavily utilise their Super Voyager fleet.

Yesterday they sent two of their Super Voyagers back off lease.

I guess the Cross Country ones may have been on routine maintenance. It would be frustrating if any were simply spare given how crowded their services are. They usually have a Voyager at Birmingham New Street simply sat around on standby ready to go into service in the event of service disruption or fleet issues.
