Greggs at stations

In Bristol we used to have Mountstevens who ran bakeries/little cafes, but they went bust. Greggs sort of took over the space that Mounstevens left. There are about half a dozen in the central Bristol area, plus many more in the suburbs.
Leeds has a Greggs just a couple of minutes walk from the station. Birmingham Moor St has one just across the road in the shopping centre -there are several other food outlets just by it as well. The pasties are so-so IMHO, but the £2 for a bacon roll and coffee is excellent value. The bacon and cheese puff pastry thingys are nice too.
Many years ago I used to buy such stuff from Hagenbachs, anyone else remember them? Did they go bust too?

Sayers (and their subsidiary Poundbakery, which is basically the same thing with lower prices) seem to be holding out against Greggs on Merseyside.
And while they don't sell pasties and similar, the Germans are making slight inroads with http://www.kamps.co.uk/. (There's one of those on practically every street corner in Germany, except where "Nur Hier" who they used to own rule the roost).

Yeah, they're going for the City market to start with. That said, there are poshed-up Greggs branches in the City as well.

I remember them very well, they were a sort of forerunner to Greggs but you buy take away stuff or sit down and have a proper meal with pie/chips/gravy etc.
I don't think they went bust, the founder ARNold Hagenbach and his business partner Sam ChippinDALE put their resources and expertise into the building of Britain's first shopping centres in the 1960s, the ARNDALE Centres!

LK Gourmet, platform units at Crewe / Stafford / Wolves (still??) coffee is superb.
I really wish Pumpkin would put a bit more effort into their coffee offering. At least Starbucks, who also use semi-skimmed by default have whole available if you ask, it makes a huge difference.

Ah yes, there's also one on Stockport station (not just Starbucks)like you say, superb coffee! The aroma hits you when coming in from the main entrance.

Of course, all of it is far better than the UHT rubbish used often in mainland Europe. You can keep your "Cappuccinomelk", it's vile.

indeed. Starbucks are good because of this.
The pumpkin/SSP platform coffee shops seem to use th bitterest coffee avaliable with the weekest semi-skimmed avaliable.
Apparantly semi skimmed is slightly cheaper than whole milk for them to buy, so another reason the tight arses dont have it.
