Greater Manchester System One DaySaver

I'm looking at going to Manchester tomorrow and am thinking of getting a return from Blackpool North to Bolton, plus a System One DaySaver Train + Tram. (Ticket code H022 / GM3 - depending on list)

Can anyone confirm whether I'll be able to buy the System One ticket at Blackpool, or will I need to wait until I'm inside the Manchester boundary to do that?

It is standard stock so you *should* be able to get it in Blackpool.

I'll give it a try - worse that could happen is they say no.

Usually, I get off the train at Bolton and buy the Daysaver from the booking office there before getting on the next train. However I'm going for the Denton Flyer tomorrow so the train I get off is the one that I need to stay on!

The Northern guard should be more than happy to issue the ticket.

Basically, does anyone know if the Train, Tram and Bus combined System One tickets are available from booking offices outwith the Greater Manchester area, and if not, are guards onboard any service (i.e. Northern or TPE in my instance) able to sell them?

I managed to get one today at a LM station in the WMPTE area as it is on standard stock as said above

Yes there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't be able to get one at any booking office or from any guard providing you give them the relevant issuing information and they are happy to issue it on that basis particularly outside the area of validity.

On some machines it will only appear in the rover/ranger section under the title "Daysaver TBM".

Thanks all. I asked if they sold the TBM version yesterday (Saturday) morning at a station a few miles from the Greater Manchester boundary and was told 'No' as 'it's a PTE product on special stock'. I did manage to obtain the ticket once inside the area however, I bought it at a railway booking office and the clerk had issued and printed it before I could put a tenner on the tray. What a noticeable contrast Amazingly, it came on a bog standard orange stock ticket too! *sighs*

On a more serious note however I have now decided that from here on in I won't bother with such slightly complex ticket requests in future. I find the blank looks and blatant lack of interest to even search from the clerks is greatly annoying, especially when I offer codes or guidance on where to find it and they just ignore it and carry on denying its existence / availability to be issued.

Some guards are great for this sort of thing. The one on my Blackpool South to Colne train was cheerfully selling all sorts of GM and WY PTE products the other day by the sound of it. And there are some who are terrible, like one on a Piccadilly train who claimed that a Cheshire Day Ranger didn't exist. Thankfully they are in the minority. Although if you do get one, offering codes and technical information about how to issue it is unlikely to make them any more inclined to help you.

I find sometimes that codes do help (though usually only the three-letter stations ones); some of the others can be hit and miss however, I'll grant you that. No harm in trying though. If I'm honest I'm awaiting the day they enable Priv discounts on TVMs, as I'd know which I'd much prefer to use!

The last time I needed a systemone ticket, neither the guard on my northern service leeds-hud, and tpe guard hud-piccadilly could work out how to issue this ticket.

I had a rail ticket as far as Stalybridge (train called there) and guard was happy for me to travel to Pic and buy from there (well done G4S, who could issue!!!).
