Greater Manchester Rail Network, different boundaries?

Tried a search but have so far found nothing. I have recently realised that there are network maps showing different boundaries got the GMPTE area.

The GMPTE website shows the following map

On the Northern Rail website, the interactive map through the link below is the same as the GMPTE one

However, if you click on the PDF version on Northern Rail's website, it will show a map which does not include Dinting, Glossop and Hadfield in the boundary area.

And to make matters worse, the current version placed by Northern in the stations I have seen (Salford Crescent, Manchester Picc.) excludes Glossop and Hadfield but shows Dinting in the boundary area.

Just wondering what is the correct boundary area? I am planning of going to Hadfield for walks durong weekends but want to make sure as not to stir up trouble if confronted by guards/RP officers etc. (season ticket holders are allowed to travel on the whole GMPTE rail network during weekends) I of course prefer the GMPTE map on their website but I cannot be sure RP officers will agree with me.

So, which map shows the correct boundary area? @_@ I am sure someone round here would be able to help and it will be appreciated.

The Northern Rail diagram is clearly not representative of any ticket zones or boundaries - purely administrative areas tinted for no particular reason.

GMPTE tickets are issued and promoted by GMPTE so stick with whatever details are currently on its website - print it out to take with you if necessary.

The subsidiary company which operates the GM travelcard system has a slightly simpler and less ambiguous diagram here http://www.systemonetravelcards.co.uk/pdf/Rail_Metrolink.pdf which clearly states that Greater Manchester tickets are valid. There's a smimilar map somewhere for bus boundary stops.

I was in that neck of the woods just over a week ago and specifically noted for future reference that Glossop and Hadfield (despite being in Derbyshire) were still within the boundary GMPTE's Wayfarer ticket, so I cannot imagine there's been a major change since in other GMPTE tickets.

I am erring towards the GMPTE version of the map too. (Partly also because it benefits me I suppose)

The Northern version is colour coded clearly though with the lables. 'Greater Manchester PTE' on the purple areas which does not include Dinting, Glossop and Hadfield.

But as you said, I think I'll just print a copy of the map and take it along.

If you present the GMPTE boundary strictly in accordance with the metropolitan county area it is constituted for, and whose council members make up the transport authority, then it will exclude Glossop and Hadfield. But that doesn't mean the boundary for ticketing is the same, particularly where only the end of branch line such as this only has a couple of stations in Derbyshire.

While there may well be some input from Derbyshire County Council or High Peak Borough Council, GMPTE obviously takes the lead on the Glossop/Hadfield rail line and sets the overall level of services, because they're pretty much self contained.

They're clearly regarded as wholly within the GMPTE area for ticketing purposes.

Rely on the GMPTE maps and publicity - we've both just looked at them so we can't both be deluded, can we?

Yes those rail areas just outside GM on the GMPTE map are in it, there are also some bus zones just outside the county boundarys but they will end next month due to the cuts to bus subsidy. Interestingly though those bus zones outside the county never covered the same area as the rail lines (i.e. Glossop/hadfield buses are Derbyshire).

I see concessionary passes and child fares will no longer take GMPTE conditions in those small areas outside GM, such as Bacup, Glossop, New Mills, Lymm and Wilmslow

and GMPTE pass holders will continue to get free travel on trains within GM, but what about to Glossop?

What about System One tickets? Will that boundary change?

:roll: Maybe not soon enough. Looks like Glossop Royal Oak and Old Glossop Turning Circle are the wrong way round on this map ? (!)

As far as I know all the rail bits outside the County Boundary are staying but the bus zones arent.
