Divert some FTPE trains into Victoria via Aston and increase the frequency of the Headfield/Glossop service to 4tph with 2 terminating at Glossop and 2 at Headfield. Also electrify the Rose Hill Marple line and increase the service via Hyde to half hourly with a full houlry evening service and the last train leaving Piccadilly after 23:00.

I think he means Ashton Under Lyne...

And TPE Fast services ARE being diverted into Victoria under the Ordstall Coard project. And the Chat Moss projects will see the Hull services extended to Liverpool.

There is also a damn good chance of Guide Bridge - Ardwick being 4 tracked anyway.

Personally, in addition to the Northern Hub proposals...

4tph TP Fast via Victoria
2tph TP Semi Fast LDS - MAN calling at Dews, Hudd and Staly
2tph Stoppers into Pic or Vic (as yet I'm undecided, depends on how much is to be pushed through Vic onto Stalybridge)
This would mean there would still be a need for 4tph on that route, there is also an asperation for Sheffeild services to be sent via Philips Park to Victoria, meaning more traffic between GB and Ashburys. 4 track is a sensible thing to do. Would also mean being able to speed up Hadfeild and Glossop services, or New Mills services, if so desired.

But, many more services and we'll need more platforms on the North Eastern side of Piccadilly.

I'd also introduce an hourly clockface service from Manchester Airport to Glasgow and Edninburgh (alternating), and I'd extend the hourly Manchester - Stoke stopping service to Birmingham International with stops at Stone, Stafford, Wolverhampton, Birmingham New Street, Adderley Park, Stechford, Lea Hall, Marston Green and Birmingham International.

Have there been any actual official proposals published so far regarding the practicalities of the HS2 route north of Rugeley and the location of stations and approach tracks in the Greater Manchester area as well as the knock on effect on local and regional services?

No, we're waiting on them with baited breath, as I can only think of 2 or 3 sensible routes into Manchester, and the contruction route of a metrolink line hindges on one of them.

Do I take it that you are referring to the final stages of the MANCHESTER METROLINK system in-between the Shadow Moss station and the Manchester Airport terminal station.

Yep...

On the alignment of land between the M56 Spur and the M60 (The old M63 alignment I believe)

Is wide enough for 2 tracks of HS2 and 2 tracks of Metrolink, but knowing GM's planning, they won't shove the met on one side...

Have you had sight of the plans for the proposed final section of the Metrolink track section from the proposed Shadow Moss station to the terminal station? I can see that the tracks will have to cross Ringway Road from the current T-junction at Shadowmoss Road, but this brings you almost to a cutting where the current railway line runs to Manchester Airport railway station.

Do you think there might be possible set backs for the Manchester extension because the line is bound to run throuhg George Osborne's constituency?

George Osbourne's consistency doesn't include anywhere in the Trafford borough or the City of Manchester borough. The Airport Cargo terminal and Runway 2 extend in to Cheshire East but the Airport station is within the City of Manchester borough.

Styal and Handforth are the nearest parts of his constituancy on the part of the area that fringes onto Manchester Airport, but that is on the OTHER side of the Manchester Airport area to that which is being discussed for the final part of the Metrolink line to Manchester Airport Interchange, which is all contained within the boundaries of the City of Manchester.

I cannot see him getting many votes in the Woodhouse Park ward if he was ever to stand for a city councillor in that area.
