So I suspect the new Bee Network multimodal Ticket will end up costing more than the current GM Rail Ranger but less than the GM Wayfarer. The big question is will it be valid on other operators within Manchester.
No reason why it won’t be, the Bee Bus day ticket is valid on all buses within Greater Manchester.
As for price, there’s isn’t currently a ticket in Manchester which covers everything (other than the Wayfarer). There’s also no reason why a rail-only ticket couldn’t still exist, it does in West Yorkshire.

One thing I have noticed about the new fares is that combined train/tram tickets singles haven't changed.
A train to train single is half the return, but a train/tram single is still as it was. I know Rome wasn't built in a day but given the changes with train only fares, you would have thought they would have aligned them.
Given a one-day Metrolink travelcard is always cheaper than two singles, it feels like it would not have been a big step to make.
When I travel to work I travel from a rail station then get the tram. But as I live between two different rail stations on different lines, the flexibility of buying two singles would have been really good for me.

I would have thought that - off peak at least - a multimodal ticket will be firmly based on the existing System One multi modal tickets. Which are cheaper than the Wayfarer. There really is no reason for it not to be based on a the System One product.
What we need though is a multi modal ticket that is valid during peak times. This doesn't currently exist. We also need full multimodal season tickets. These also don't exist. You cannot currently - for example - get an annual bus/train/tram ticket.
This is where London's ticketing system JUST WORKS. It is actually a complicated system but the passenger doesnt need to know nor care. With fare capping you don't pay more than the Travelcard day rate no matter what you do. Yes there are different rates but you don't need to think. It just works. Greater Manchester needs to get to that level.
And you know what, it may cost some people a little more. But I would put money on most people not caring. Or even noticing. Because with fare caps people just trust the system to make sure they get a good deal. I lived in London for a long time. And the difference caps made was enormous. You simply stop having to think about this stuff. Which is not where I am in Greater Manchester.
For Northern and TransPennine Express, no, but looking at brfares.com there still appear to be TfW only fares for Manchester Piccadilly to both Manchester Airport and Stockport after 7th December.
I was half expecting there also to be TOC specific Manchester to Stockport fares for Avanti and/or CrossCountry, but there don't appear to be any.
Also listed for Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport is a 1st class Anytime Short Return at £19.10, valid for return within one month and listed as set by Greater Manchester PTE even though GMPTE (now Transport for Greater Manchester) has been a Standard Class only PTE since the 1980s.
What does seem to be rather strange is if you go on BRfares and search Hadfield to Manchester+Bus it states "no fare" But when you go to the Plus-Bus web site and input Manchester as your Plus-Bus area the map clearly shows Hadfield as being outside of the PlusBus area .. Now I say something isn't right because you can only buy Plus-Bus if travelling into (from outside of) the plus bus area concerned .. And Hadfield is clearly shown as outside the area.

Further investigation: the off-peak day return with railcard Wilmslow-Manchester goes up by 28% in price. Meaning that a Duo ticket without a railcard is now cheaper for two people. Until 7 December 2xoff-peak return tickets with 2 Together railcard are cheaper than the Duo.
So “simplification” seems to mean massive fare increase here.
My experience of travelling to Bradford from Manchester Airport is that the changes have made splitting at Rochdale even more attractive than it was before.
On that subject, can anyone explain this?
Manchester Airport to Rochdale via Metrolink CTLZ is £4.20 off-peak and £7 anytime.
Manchester Airport to Manchester CTLZ is £5.20 off-peak and £6.20 anytime.

It's been posted prominently on other forums, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.
It's not just Rochdale, either, it seems to apply to most stations in GM. It's also £4.20 off-peak to Appley Bridge, Bromley Cross, Greenfield, and Horwich Parkway.

So modest savings to be made, but savings nevertheless, for Off Peak travel from Manchester Airport, by buying to destinations beyond Manchester CTLZ? Seems that what's (possibly) the main destination from the Airport is the one with premium pricing!
