I wouldn't hold out just on this one job. Railway recruitment can take over a year from application to starting on a course. I was lucky, only took 9 months! You may find you'll pass on the assessments and interviews only to be placed in a pool. Best to keep your options open.

How would being placed in a pool work with regards to the assessments, if you didn't get to start training within 6 months would you then have to take the assessments again or would you be safe as they'd already 'accepted' you?

Your assesment pass is valid for 3 years. If you are not given a job within 12 months then look at other companies and you will jump straight to interview stage.

This isn't the case for some TOC/FOC unfortunately. Some like you to resit the assessments with them and don't forget some also require enhanced standards. You are correct though 80%of TOC/FOC will accept your passes already but not all!

As others have said, your results are valid for up to 5 years with some TOC's but I think the average is around 3. Once you've passed all stages and placed in a pool, there is still no guarantee of a job at the end of it, unfortunately. Get as many applications in as you can to local TOC's/FOC's to increase your chances. It's a very sought after role. Good luck.

I could be wrong but I believe different TOCs have different marks / grades as to what they consider as enhanced. I think there is a national standard but I’d have no idea what the mark / grade is for that either as when I did my assessments I was just told I’d passed until I failed the VSE. It was with ARL who apparently require enhanced but again no idea what that mark is.

Visual Search Exercise if I remember correctly. It was during the 2nd day of assessments for me which was all the computer based stuff. As I’ve said I think only a few TOCs use it. I did it for ARL but WMT were also there and none of their candidates had to do it.

Hi all, I’ve done the first online 19 question assessment about three days ago. I still haven’t heard nothing back, is there anyway I can find out if I passed it? Or do I just continue to wait to hear from them? Thanks.

You should do, but unfortunately there is no guarantee due to the volume of applications they receive.

The SJT (situational judgement test) is the first test, 19 questions, so your now at the same stage as the rest of us.

No mainline driver jobs pay 30k do they?!
