Just a quick query, is it ok to buy a Anglia Plus Day Ranger on the train from the guard or should I purchase it from the ticket office before travel?

Buy before travel where facilities exist otherwise you will be in breach of railway byelaws and may be subject to penalty fare (where applicable) or prosecution.

Yes and the seasons. Technically if you are boarding at Lowestoft or Yarmouth you should have a ticket but if you are boarding somewhere else there is no need to drive to Norwich/Yarmouth/Lowestoft to buy before travelling.
