Why not hire in another pair of 47's and the Pretendolino rake from Virgin (Or whoever owns it) which could be used to provide the coaching stock by providing some more Mk3's

It isn't Mk3s that we are in need of, there are plenty of those. What is needed is something with engines and preferably units.

If a 'hybrid' unit had been made up last week from stopped units then perhaps the embarressment of cancellations could have been avoided

If it's a shortage of locos could they use 92s?

Nahh, it's a lack of DMUs that is the problem so 92s wouldn't be terribly helpful. GA are operating a more intense service with the same number of DMUs as NXEA, and NXEA needed an LHCS set so this isn't surprising.

Saying that a 92 rolling into Yarmouth would be impressive!

Ooh right! I thought they needed more Locos for IC services.

Could they split up the pretendolino standard coaches and use idk 37s or something in place of DMUs

Thats what GA have been planning to do, taking a class 47, 2 Mk3 IC coaches and a DVT and operating them on the Wherry Lines Services (Mk3 coaches are not permitted on the Bittern Line)

There are a surplus of Mark 3s at Crown Point so there is no problem there. DRS will provide the locos, normally 47s but 20s, 37s & 57s have all also been used in the past. The train will be T&T with locos as the DVT doesn't work with them, and is only present so the guards office is there, and a brake vehicle is in the formation (and maybe something about the central door locking needing the DVT).

Following my observation as I passed it in a 153 at Reedham the 47s are 805 and 802. The cold air is producing a nice bit of clag this morning to boot!

Last night a train broke down on the Sudbury to marks tey line. Does anyone know what unit it was (although it is more likely to be a class 156)? when will it be back in service, and is this going to make stock shortages worse?

156402 broke down in the morning with a brake fault, and was replaced by 153335 on the line. I assume it is only a minor fault.

Nope, but when the stock shortages are sorted, it should be on one of the diagrams for 156's previously mentioned.

Does anyone know what diagrams/ services 156412 will operate when in returns from Wolverton?

I presume it could be any of the given diagrams (once stock shortages are sorted out) and will slowly move through the greater anglia region as trains are taken in for servicing etc. I would hedge a bet towards the Norfolk branches as 146412 will be arriving at Crown Point when it gets back from wolverton :)

At Sheringham today around 14:50 there was a 3 Car Class 170 in the station, I was too far away to see the number. I am just wondering if the stock shortages have been sorted out? Because a 3 Car Class 170 working to sheringham is rare :D

Maybe because Norwich are at home to Reading? Control try to strengthen services depending on what is available, which would throw out a few unusual workings.

Things where slightly helped by engineering work Brandon to Cambridge. There where 3-car 170s on Yarmouths/Lowestofts along with 156+153 combos. Even with a a 3-car 170 the 17.50 Sheringham was absolutley bursting. Good job the barriers where fully staffed & revenue protection present as the conductor had no chance.

GA's 170s work the routes from Ipswich to Peterborough, Ipswich to Cambridge and Norwich to Cambridge. All three of which pass through Ely, so that's your best bet of finding one in the shortest time.

They also do some services on the branchlines in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Ipswich to Cambridge route doesn't go to Ely, it will go to Bury St Edmunds then after that split off towards Newmarket

I would guess its either Norwich to Sherringham/Yarmouth/Lowestoft or Ipswich to Lowestoft/Felixstowe

Very rarely do you see a 156 in Cambridge or Ely

No, the rural lines out of Norwich aren't electrified, neither is it from Ipswich

Thought they already had a set in the sidings at Norwich already

Why can't MK3 carriages work the Bittern line other than the obvious that when they get to Sherringham the platform isn't big enough

TBH surprised they haven't got rid of that station now the line is connected and run into the big station

The level crossing that was put in is purely for charter trains, or visiting engines going to the NNR. There is an agreement with the council that the level crossing won't be used for more than a dozen trains a year, as it blocks the maon road into Sheringham town or something like that.
