Sorry if there already has been a thread about this, but what is the plan for GA's current 170, 156 and 153 when they are replaced by the new Stadler units?

The 170's are definitely going to Transport for Wales but the other unit's don't have any new homes.

170s going to Wales. 156s not taken yet. I think the 153s might go to East Midlands, but I may well be remembering that incorrectly. I'm sure of the 170s, though.

i doubt the 153's will see regular service.
emt could probably do with the 156's for crewe-derby and lincoln-peterborough. they are usually rammed when its 1 coach.
they might keep their existing 153's as capacity busters for peak/seasonal loadings and rescue trains.
not really any great intention to do anything major until next franchise awarded, but might earn them a few brownie points with commuters at minimal operating cost.

I think Heaton would be a good place for some of the 156's for Northern, especially for doubling up during the rush hour and weekends when the 142's go. A single 156 every hour up and down the Durham Coast still wont be enough even when the Northern Connects start. On any given Saturday by the time they get to Hartlepool heading to Newcastle it's normally crush loading. But I guess there's probably no financial scope in the franchise agreement for Northern to take on anymore?
