Made in Poland I believe.
I believe that the original intention was to fabricate the bodyshells in the Szolnok factory in Hungary and thence to the Bussnang plant in Switzerland to be fitted out.
Unaware of any change to that. Perhaps others know better?

According To Marine Traffic https://www.marinetraffic.com British naval vessel 'HMS Diamond' is in port in Basel tonight

Could be an AIS fault - but that is what shows up

That's bizarre.. Not possible though, she would have to take out the Dreiländerbrücke and god knows how many more with her big guns to make it that far down the Rhein into Grossbasel if she didn't run aground first...
The Rhein is way too shallow for a vessel of that size to navigate.

Anyway.. About the new stock, I was fortunate enough to have sampled several of Stadler's other new products on display there at the Messe in Berlin during InnoTrans and must say I was impressed, particularly with the new "4-car" train for the Glasgow U-Bahn, Stadler have very cunningly developed a completely auotomated 3-car that looks like a 4-car for the SPT, complete with a dismantleable cab that is only there for show and reassurance purposes, for planned future automatic operation, a la DLR..
One wonders if their future mainline "metro" products will be built to similar standard..?

I was also sad to learn that this LHCS replacement solution for the GEML will come without resto / bar / buffet..
I do wonder how kindly the good people of Norwich, Ipswich and Colchester etc will take to that, considering how good an onboard service they have had in the past on what is arguably a fairly shorthaul sector of around two hours. First, full restaurant car service, then just buffet / bar, then "mini buffet" and now nothing! Or do they plan to replace the buffet's with a trolley service of some sort??
I don't believe there are any full MK3 buffet's in original configuration left on the GEML now?
One can only hope that the new stock will be delivered with something better than those awful "irning board" seats that seem to have became an all to common feature on new stock in UK today..
The MK3's will certainly be missed...

10 x 745 sets will have a "bistro" which will be enough to provide catering on at least two hourly services.

The Mk 3s may be missed by enthusiasts but us commuters will not. They're not fit for the service, make boarding and alighting a nightmare increasing dwell times, have nowhere comfortable to stand and subject travellers to all manor of whiplash inducing jerking when slowing/speeding up. The seats are not very supportive and disabled passengers get to ride in a drafty brake van. While it's sad that a long history of loco-hauled services will come to an end, it's overdue in terms of providing a quality/reliable service.

Not sure what you mean by 'disabled passengers get to ride in a drafty brake van' as they travel in the FOD at position J on the main line IC sets.

I've seen a photo / CGI of the buffet counter so they will have them.

I thought it had been well documented throughout the railway press & on here that the seating is very different to the 'ironing board' type you are referring to.

Catering will be provided as now on the Norwich route from from a buffet counter (not sure why they've decided to call it a Bistro as that conjures up images of some 1980s back street establishment) & will be supported by trolley/at-seat on some services. This will be located close to 1st class accommodation.

An interesting thing I found out yesterday- the Norwich IC sets will have 6 bookable bike spaces, maintaining the capacity that is bookable under normal circumstances on the current trains. They won't be able to do the special circumstances such as the Dunwich Dynamo where they pile 50 into the DVT currently though. They will still be bookable on the peak time trains (as it is now) and will be located near the inner end of First Class (and so near the Bistro I guess).

The Stansted ones though will have 0 bike capacity. This mirrors the current policy where officially no bikes are allowed on Stansted Express services unless boxed/bagged ready for carriage by air.

So that'll be fun when a Stansted one is on a Norwich service. No 1st class. No Bistro. No bike spaces! just standard class and luggage racks.

From what I gather, there will only be one airport train covering a morning/evening peak Norwich & that is to cycle (excuse the pun) them to/from Crown Point for two weekly heavy maintenance. Shouldn't be much in the way of spare capacity to make it more often.

Such a tasteful and effective livery - a variation of this white/grey/red theme should be adopted as a national generic branding for all English franchises in a similar way to the Saltire Scottish theme. Not only would this unify the system, but would avoid all of the constant rebranding when franchises change.
It is indeed very good.

Thanks, didn't know that. Had a friend who was put in the DVT a few months ago, maybe there was some detail missing from his story.

It does have a buffet?

As someone at the end of the line who used to sue the buffet I really don't care, can get a much nicer coffee at either end then ghastly lavazaa or illy from the buffet, I can get a much nicer sandwich at either end than the buffet, I can get a much better quality alcoholic beverage at either end than on the buffet. It's OK for a cold can of coke now and then but the buffet's days are numbered anyway - enthusiasts wont like it but the general public wants better quality.

There should never be any passengers carried in the DVT, wheelchair or not.

Wouldn't be the DVT mate as passengers are not permitted to be carried in there. Would it have been the small passenger accommodation on the brake van on the short hauled set that operates on local services to Yarmouth/Lowestoft?

Really?

The Stadler representative I spoke with in Berlin told me the contrary. Well that is certainly nice to hear.
Regarding MK3's, fair enough if you use them everyday and feel they are life expired, I guess you could say I am probably just being nostalgic, having grown up with them on the WCML and have since enjoyed them on trips to/ from Norwich over the years.

 You did make me laugh there!
Its a tried and tested name that works well on both SBB and DB, the "Bordbistro".
But by going by your description, it sounds like it will be nothing like that and just a buffet/bar counter as now on the MK3's.

Non-the-less, I do now look forward to giving one a try next year.

Looking at next week for first arrival in the UK travelling through from Germany. Expected to be 2x755 units now.

The 745's are different, 6 x 2-car articulated sets, do we know the body width / length of said vehicles?
I've seen 20 metres quoted elsewhere, but only in the context of a 12 car 745 being as long as 3 x 4 car Electrostars.

I'll check tomorrow but I believe the body cross section remains the same. Longer bodies though, you're correct as the units are semi-articulated so you can extend the bodyshell over one bogie.

I believe that the original intention was to fabricate the bodyshells in the Szolnok factory in Hungary and thence to the Bussnang plant in Switzerland to be fitted out.
Unaware of any change to that. Perhaps others know better?

First few units were built in Bussnang so that they could make sure they got it right. Subsequently bodyshells were done in Hungary, Power packs in Valencia, assembly in Poland. All EMUs (20x12 cars) are being built at Bussnang.

Indeed, a bit lame to have that scheduled once a week or whenever it's due, but it'll still be a lot better than having an unrefurbished 2x321 cover for a set of Mk3s.

Don't they already do this anyway? There's a note in the timetable for a couple of specific services stating no buffet or first class and I assume it's Stansted stock being rotated into and out of depot.
This morning I had a very pleasant journey in a first class coach that had been marshalled into the middle of standard class. That won't happen with the new trains!

Certainly not at the moment - Stansted units never work the GEML as far as I know, I don't think the drivers are trained on them. 379s do, however, work some Cambridge services.

Cough sorry so 800s used to Penzance won't have a buffet but norwich to london will

Norwich does rather well does it not? Currently enjoying mk3s and not many moons ago didn't Anglia Railways offer award winning catering ?

I'll check on the DVT passenger story, he's ex-railway so it's unlikely he didn't know what he was talking about.

No it's just the 17:02dn/19:30up (SX) which are booked for 321 operation.

Other than that it would be services like the 06:00, 06:25 & 07:00 down as well as 20:30 & 22:00 up which have no catering as this is all from Norwich based crew.

Might as well do this with burger places too.
Or banks.
Just have the word "BANK" to uniform them all, or "Burgers" to uniform all the bad eating places that sell burgers.
