Greater Anglia 1st Class Provision

Hi All,
Was just wondering which units of Greater Anglia's fleet have first class accommodation and what routes/ diagrams they usually run. E.g do 170s on the Bury line have 1st class etc.

Hello Lewis, yes the 170s do have first class. However when the new stock takes over only the Norwich Electric Flirt sets will have First class, the Bi-modes are all Standard

Current GA fleet with 1st class accommodation:
DMU: Class 170
EMU: Class 317, 321, 360, 379
Loco Hauled: Mark 3 (hauled by class 90)

No 1st class:
DMU: Class 153, Class 156
Loco Hauled: Mark 2 (hauled by class 37)

Not all routes that Class 170 are used on has 1st class fares. Class 317/5 1st class is especially poor

Future fleet with 1st class:
EMU: Class 745/0 Norwich Intercity

Future fleet with no 1st class:
EMU: Class 745/1 Stansted Express, Class 720
Bi-Mode: Class 755

Like a lot if TOCs GA’s first class freebies are different at the weekend, though in this case there simply aren’t any. Free tea / coffee etc for first class ticket holders is now just a Monday to Friday operation.

Except if you are a 1st class season ticket holder. They may still request them at weekends. Nothing is ever straightforward these days

but that's just on Norwich-London express services, as all others have no catering

How stingey can you get. I also see that railway staff holding 1st class facilities can't even avail themselves of complimentary tea/coffee at any time on AGA services that provide them - I think AGA are unique in this respect.

That would make sense, but wasn't as described to me when the wagon (unusually) came through first the other week, and I have a 1st season. Didn't help there was a declassified FO in the formation that further complicated things for the catering crew.

Don't mind paying for a cuppa, as long as the rules are applied consistently.

It was all a muddle to be fair so no surprises there. Staff where emailed about the season ticket thing the week after changes where made. As you say, unusual for the trolley to work through first class unless there was no catering vehicle in the set.

GAs offer in 1st is probably now the worst of any of the former IC TOCs, something to look forward too on the MML soon?

Same old muddle it seems, bit like Super Off Peak tickets and whether they will or won’t only be available on line soon?

Well obviously individual catering staff can do what they want but the advice for any 1st class facilities holder on Greater Anglia cannot be clearer:

The complimentary refreshments served in First Class or from the café bar on InterCity services are not available to staff travel holders regardless of the level of facilities held.

Yes I had already seen that. Railway family & all that but the particular member of staff seemed adamant that it was permitted & only concerned that the staff member had boxes but no photo ID.
