Great Western Main Line/Shorter Franchises

Saw this article.

It seems the Governmanet want to reduce franchises to 6 year deals/10 year deals. And here in the south west there is concern that such a chnage will be a negative thing for the Greater Western Franchise.

Also critcises the past Governmant for there part in the shambles of the GWML, which is "left the Great Western line with the oldest mainline fleet, the most expensive fares and the highest levels of over-crowding."

That news article was out of date as soon as it was published, because the franchise length for GW was given as 15 years in the simultaneous OJEU announcement (linked in the main thread as tbtc pointed out)...
