Very bouncy on the journey to Barnstaple where there is quite a bit of jointed track still.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. I've only taken Pacers on the Exmouth & Paignton legs of the Devon Metro (for my sins) so I wasn't aware of the joints en route to Barnstaple.

Wikipedia says:

The Pacer series were built with low construction and running costs in mind, and so all of the Pacer units feature the following:[4]

The use of a lightweight modified bus body, and other bus components and fittings, such as bus-style seating. The Pacers use a modified bus body with a reinforced cab area, in order to comply with crashworthiness standards.

So...is it wrong then? :o

Wikipedia looks like it could be correct in this case, it just depends on how you read it. The important point is that the modified bus bodies were presumably modified in the CAD drawings (or the pre-computerisation equivilent) before construction; they didn't physically grab a bus and start cutting it up (or maybe they did for the prototype Pacers, but not the production 142-144 fleets).

That's my understanding anyway, I wasn't born yet when the Pacers were introduced and I don't work in the rail industry, so have zero inside knowledge.

Just to answer the question regarding 150001, it's currently running the 1123 Portsmouth Harbour - Cardiff central service.

That sort of thing. When I meant hybrid I meant a mix of both liveries.

It's like when you used to have mixed HST sets with Fag Packet, Barbie and Dynamic Lines liveries, although I wasn't around in the days of the Fag Packet and I can't remember seeing a Barbie apart from in photos and videos.

This happens regularly, since powercars and coaches are swapped between sets.

Inevitable I'm afraid, with regular maintenance / exams. The only way to avoid it, is to give them all gwr paint, and i don't think that's happening! ;)

I won't lie, I quite like it, although I don't like the dynamic lines interior, but what do you mean that's not happening? Are some staying in DL Livery forever or is that purely because some sets are going soon?

Because the GWR brand was introduced 2 years ago almost now, and still only about half if that of the units are repainted!

With the imminent influx of shiny super-duper new trains (and consequent removal of many HSTs from the fleet), there is no point in repainting. The ones that have been done were either done for publicity or are part of the retained fleet.

Oh, and when will we start seeing regular diagramed short formation HSTs?

And when will plug doors be introduced?

Inevitable anyway since there are more power cars in GWR livery than there are sets of coaches to run them with. That will presumably change when the short sets with power-doors start to appear, as they will probably be in green and most if not all the power cars modified to work with them will also be green.

And when will plug doors be introduced?
On GWR IC125 sets? Never, sadly. The plan appears to be to fit non-plug sliding doors (like on the class 800s) to the mark 3s for GWR's short IC125 sets. These untidy, non-plug, power-doors will appear when the short sets are introduced.

Can't remember, I think I recall reading somewhere that a number of mark 3s went into the works to create a prototype power-door short-set a while back and is due to appear first followed by the rest some months later. Given that power-door-ready power cars are already in use on the full-length sets I'm guessing it won't be all that long before the prototype set appears. Using uninformed logic, the power cars will be needed on full-length sets until the class 800s are introduced onto IC125 diagrams, so perhaps an October start date for the prototype short-set as well as the 800s unless the first batch of 800s introduced is only four units to replace the 180s.

Sorry - sliding doors is what I meant, not plug doors!

I do wonder what will happen to the timetables. Will they retain the H sign that tells you it is a HST? And will something notify you if a train will be an IEP or not?

Perhaps they'll use a lower case 'h' to denote a little hst? ;)
