Something that may or may not be connected with the refurb:

Since the change to FGW to GWR the volume of the canned announcements on 165/166s varies hugely. A fair number are unintelligible.

It's a trivial task to normalise the volume of sound files, so I'm wondering why it hasn't been done?

It appears that 150001 is now in green, as shows Gilberdyke Barry's photo.

Looking good - will be interesting what's been done to the interior and if they've changed the headlights as has been done on the 166s - I hope so as the non high intensity headlamps they've got, along with the ex LM 150/1s look pretty dead now.

I presume 232 Has also had the new PA system, door buttons & sounders as per the DDA modified 219?

Indeed it does, and 150238. However, the PA system was switched off in 150232 when I was on it.

I've been on a SWT 158 hire in which was attached to 150238 working a Weymouth - Bristol service about a month ago. The PA system was switched on and it was so strange hearing it on a SWT unit. I'm not sure if something went a little bit dodgy between the units but the PA announcements were very very loud in the SWT 158, and sounded as if there was interference.

End coaches reformed as 150125 and 150126 - to be sent to Northern.

150209? I think are the centre coaches - to be refurbished to standard 150/2 gwr spec and remain with the company.

Do we know what work 001 is receiving at Doncaster? New interior / Seats and Lavatory or just a repaint and mechanical overhaul?

Does this mean one of them is going to get a toilet and make it a standard 150/2 or will it become an odd man out in the fleet?

The plan is that one will be fitted with an accessible toilet module and the two will become effectively a standard unit. What number it will carry is anyone's guess, as renumbering the toilet fitted vehicle as a 52xxx will presumably happen, but if it keeps the last 3 digits will be duplicating a number of a scrapped vehicle. Possibly the whole unit will become 150286, with vehicles becoming 52286/57286 respectively.

C6 overhaul (whatever happens on that!) and I believe a new Universally Accessible Toilet. Don't know if the interior will receive a revamp.

I think for the moment interior refurb work is unlikely, as the new grey fabric used in the 'Green Goddess' HST (and Turbos I presume?) is not wearing at all well.

I think a heavy green moquette may appear on any future interior refurbs.

I hope the interior receives some sort of revamp - however doubtful with the current seat cover issues. I have maintained the belief for ages though that the 150s need a SWT 455 interior job doing. Northern will have to certainly with the 150/1s considering the state some of them are in. Very basic interiors that look antiquated now and will be even more shown up once the CAFs start.

New panelling, new seats and layout, akin to the 455 refurbishment really would be great. However probably will never happen

Latterly, new vehicle numbers don't tend to happen - 168329 has previously been 170399 and 170309 but the carriages are still 50399 and 70399. 171730 has 50392 and 79392 from when it was 170392.

57209 and 57212 also operated for one day last year as as 150209 when they were moved from 150921/150927 to overhaul and then to 150925/150927.

Of course all of 57351 to 57385 were previously 57301 to 57335 but that was in an earlier time. More recently mark 3 and mark 4 carriages have been renumbered also but that is a bit different too.

We will have to wait and see.

Quelle Surprise!

Those modules really are cheap and awful things. Perhaps it's stopped the annoying voice talking to you when your using it though!

With all this PRM stuff going on does anyone think the PA should inform the passengers if the toilet is in use or available, if they fitted an air sampler in the toilet the PA could also advise people if they needed to leave it five minutes before using the toilet!
I mean if they need all the other stuff then surely they need this vital information?

Two long journeys without toilets. With the former, god help anyone needing to use the loo between Castle Cary and Weymouth!

Apparently a FGW HST set was sighted at Milton Keynes, bound for Wolverton Works. Does anyone know anything about this?

166216 formed my North Downs line train this morning. Not yet repainted, but has been running around for many months with the first class at one end 'partially-declassified'! By this I mean that the yellow stripe has been removed on one side of the coach, but not on the other, the same goes for the large '1', there are no window stickers at all, but there are anti-macassars at every seat! Never mind the passengers, I don't how the staff are meant to know what is what! The fact that first has been abolished on the route's stopping trains since last October has not been publicised anywhere except in the timetables, such that my guard the other day didn't even know this! Pretty shambolic.
