The name of the operator has to show on the vehicle, like CrossCountry where there is now a small 'operated by Arriva DB' on the end vehicles.

Not sure that's true.. Neither Thameslink or Great Northern units have any mention of Govia on them or even any mention of GTR..

i know it costs alot of money, but its a shame they cant bring in some branding specialists, i coudnt do better, but surely they should be aiming for something that equals or beats tfl and british rail branding.

Effectively, this is what is happening on GWR to reduce costs. The livery and the GWR branding will be the base for future franchise holders, they'll just changed the 'operated by First' to reflect the new owners.
This is why operators will be required to display the company name or else passengers won't know what operator is running their service or if it changes hands.
Personally I think the 'GWR' brand and green base livery is one of the best out there, certainly better than painting your trains white or grey!

They haven't even finished one carriage yet! I'm FGW are putting a lot of effort into the new branding, they need a new image with a lot of people. I don't see TfL branding as special - BR had miles on that.

I must admit I think Dynamic Lines does look quite nice and will be missed. But the stations are very scruffy and are in need of a heavy refurb in many cases.

I too like the Dynamic Lines, especially on 165/166/180s. Nice swish livery. As for the stations, it's not just the Great Western ones which need love - if you ever pass through London, take a look at New Southgate and other ECML suburban stops. They're awful anyway, but especially so because due to the split of responsibility between Network Rail and the TOC, the paint only goes up to eight feet high!

Isn't first dropping the first branding from great western because there rail services have such a poor reputation that it was acting as a contagion on their bus services.

First Great Western is generally considered one of the better operators, their buses not so much.

i wanted to see a 165 but imagine they will just be wrapped although had heard that it causes damage/corosion as water gets trapped so might see a full paint instead, since the network south east livery they always looked a bit unloved to me

The demise of NSE branding is a sad outcome of privatisation. The 205 that the Epping Ongar Railway has looks spectacular in NSE colours. Bold and simple.

I can't say I will miss the ghastly First Dynamic Lines that will also disappear from Thameslink soon.

I think the First Capital Connect livery was actually called "Urban Lights". I never really liked the "Local Lines" FGW variant though.

Personally I think the 'GWR' brand and green base livery is one of the best out there, certainly better than painting your trains white or grey!

Ugh, don't get me started on Greater Anglia...

when i said unloved re the branding, it just seems they were done properly with NSE, i dont like the colours reminds me of a tube of toothpaste.

would be nice to see a strong image across the whole network from padd to penzance.

I do like the new green and grey, definitely more classy and stylish. That said I didn't mind the Dynamic Lines livery, especially the Best Impressions revamped version that was applied to the Adelantes. The Local Lines version never grew on me though, although I understand the reasoning it always lacked something.

The small "operated by First" perhaps suggest that, like ScotRail, the livery/brand would remain whoever runs the franchise in future.

I think the GWR will look good on the IEPs, not quite sure about the 150s/158s...

Are they going to paint the HSTs? Kinda no point if they're going in a couple of years.

I think the success of the new livery on 150s& 158s will depend very much on how carefully the yellow ends/panels are applied. If they're done with a modicum of artistic flare and due regard for the shape of the unit front, and most importantly designed into the overall livery scheme then it might look quite stylish. However, if they design a livery and then just plonk a yellow end on the front then it won't work.

Maybe not then. I'd have thought thought that Great Western Trains would have come from the original Pre First Group Great Western Trains than FGWs GWR - especially given their recent GWR branding efforts?

FGW do still own gwt.co.uk, but I doubt they'll use it.

The branding is GWR (large type) with an optional subtitle of Great Western Railway (small type). I would expect FGW to buy gwr.co.uk from the current holder, who is a well-known domain speculator. I'm actually slightly surprised they don't appear to have done it yet.

(A few years back I owned greatnorthern.co.uk. I should have kept it...)
