Great West Way - West - 1 day itinerary

Hi there - my first post on here.

Im based in Amesbury near Salisbury, and have recently finished a two day trip to Waterloo - Paddington - Night Riviera to Penzance - St Ives - Salisbury trip, and I'm looking at doing a more local day travelling.

I've found the Great West Way West pass, and am thinking about giving this a go on Thursday. My proposed itinerary is:

X5 Bus Amesbury to Pewsey 0846 - 0930
Pewsey to Bristol Temple Meads 0952 - 1129
Bristol Temple Meads to Bradford on Avon - 1141 - 1214
Bradford on Avon to Swindon - 1224 - 1309
Swindon to Frome - 1325 - 1459
Frome to Pewsey - 1626 - 1702
X5 Bus Pewsey to Amesbury - 1720 - 1802

Wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this, or other suggestions. I'm happy to end my trip in Pewsey or back in Salisbury - and I'm not time constrained either end.

Bradford on Avon to Swindon - 1224 - 1309

That's a tight connection at Bath for the sake of doing Bathampton-Bradford a couple of extra times. I would be inclined to go direct Bristol to Swindon

Swindon to Frome - 1325 - 1459

There's a 1315 via Melksham to Westbury if you want to cover Thingley Jn to Bradford Jn as part of your trip.

And of course, always have a Plan B

I would probably go Bristol - Swindon, Swindon to Westbury via Melksham, then Westbury to Salisbury which covers a bit more track.

Thanks for the suggestions! As I’m new to this is there an app / website for recording the tracks that you’ve been on? (Like railmiles is for mileage)

I see the Pass is valid on the X5, but is it also restricted for travel before 09:20?

Edit: Have you considered the Freedom of Severn & Solent 3 in 7, If you hold a railcard it is much better value and gives great coverage.
