What modern train do you reckon makes the best noise. I reckon the 165 it dosnt look great but it makes a nice sound when it accelerates out of Reading.

I like 350s m'self. I know many don't, but I find the whirring/whining/whatever you call it sound as they pull out quite pleasant.

Voyagers and 185's are nice when accellerating...

Just to confuse matters slightly, can a Valenta be classed as 'modern'? The same question applies to the class 37, 40 etc.

158s have a nice 'whine' when they accelerate.

I agree. The 158 is definitely the most friendly DMU sound on the network. Very quiet, calming and relaxing.

How about the class 323? The most interesting sound on the network, surely?

My favourite sound has to be the Cummins QSK19 on the Voyager (and the R version on the 185). It is not the most interesting sound in the world, I agree. But it kind of sounds like the faint rumble of a really old fighter bomber - a squadron of Lancasters just passing over the coast, perhaps. It just sounds like power. I also love the peaking effect. The 185 is particularly good for this.

I like the noise of a Turbostar - sounds very modern. I also love the noise of some of the 158s, particularly the WYPTE ones.

Well, was this the thread that was "modern" earlier?

If so, I kinda like a 185 on top notch. If I have to go for older ones, there are so many but Valentas and 37's stand out.
