Wasn't paying attention to the unit number, but the 0947 Ely-KGX this morning had a fallen-off door button - that brought back memories!

That would have been 379 025 + 379 029.

Incidentally, the return working for that set, the 11.27 King's Cross to Cambridge, has been cancelled "due to a planning error".

Looks like the diagram has been cancelled for the rest of the day, so once again no 1710 Kings Lynn service (7th cancellation out of 13 potential runs this month), and the 1740 is already cancelled too (4th cancellation out of 13).

There are clearly still some difficulties with the 379 diagrams. Was hoping the issues you'd expect in the first few days of the new timetable would have been ironed out by now, but it doesn't seem so.

Yesterday evening there was a variation on the booked working when the class 379s off 1648 ex Ely formed the 1824 to Letchworth and the class 700 ex Hornsey worked the 1827 to Cambridge. Looking at Real Time Trains I think this may be a short term planning alteration not a permanent change.

Yes likely to be due to late-night engineering work. There were a few differences yesterday, no doubt necessary in order to achieve the correct stock balance.

HE309/310 diagram is 700004 today, vice 379s.

The only change I have picked up is I think 008 has been moved from Worksop to Hornsey. Any other updates?

Interestingly on Tiger where a service is worked by 379's the only coach advertised as having first class is the one closest to London (see screenshot below). Might there be a change of policy over first class declassification coming soon?
View attachment 182139

It could also be that GTR haven't finished uploading the facility information data into the Worldline CIS. These facility diagrams have been introduced relatively recently on GN services and it is a manual task to define what unit has what facilities in the relevant systems AIUI.

The graphics are all over the place right now. 387s often saying coach 3 and 7 for accessible section on the text, and 2 and 6 on the graphic (or vice versa). 717s are often the wrong way around too, so the accessible coach is one off and the bike area even more off.

It certainly would be good if one of the first class areas was declassified, and in many cases people seem to be just plonking themselves in there anyway. I wonder how long until we get posts here?

I don’t think I have ever seen a 717 wrong way around. I guess the 1st class isn’t the worse in the world as it will normally only be 1 coach out. Interesting then don’t put where first class is on any trains.

The 379 first class compartment is very clear compared to 387s in both seat style and arrangement. If people are sitting in there "by accident" then I think the PFN should be treated as a recommendation to visit Specsavers.

They'll then fall back to arguing that they thought it was declassified as per the 700s, or just claim there were no seats anywhere else.

Or maybe more people are paying for first class now.. ;)

I guess from Cambridge that is very possible (although you still have to choose your services well).i have heard someone use that debate on a 387. The RPI was having none of it. On A 387 I did wonder why they bothered, that is the inconsistency that will come and bite GTR.Need to look at the timetable, not sure if any 379 services are declassified, I think even the peak services to Letchworth (but maybe not as a lot of people pay first class on those trains)

A post from someone at GTR on another forum a while back explained that they were having difficulties with developing a solution to keep the orientation information correct in certain systems.

Other than 020 moving to Hornsey, I'm not aware of any other fleet changes this week. If there are please let me know and I will add it to the next updated list.

Was mildly surprised when travelling to Kings Lynn last weekend that the 379s announcements have the same issue as the 387s at Littleport - incorrectly announcing a short platform in the down direction (when it isn't, the short platform is only in the up direction).

Is this a generic issue for Electrostars - ie. they can't vary the message depending on direction?

I think it is generic on the Electrostars, I have experienced it on the 3rd rail versions as well.

Time to curse things, however they seem to be able to get the diagrams out (at least South of Cambridge) with the 379s,

Yes exactly. The announcements are station specific but not platform specific so they use the lowest platform length as default... except a few stations like Clapham Junction, selhurst etc

A post from someone at GTR on another forum a while back explained that they were having difficulties with developing a solution to keep the orientation information correct in certain systems.

Can they not keep coach numbers (or letters) fixed to the unit, rather than always 1 at the front? Though I guess in system logic terms getting the software to state correctly (coach 1 is at the back) is the same challenge as providing the correct orientation information ...

Generic for all Electrostars. The "Short Station" is driven by MITRAC Database and GPS. The train only knows its next station has a short platform but cannot know which platform it is for.
The GPS tells the train it's within a radius of the station.
What allows the, say all 8 coaches, to open where there's mixed platform lengths is a software called "Tracklink" and on-track beacons, that override the GPS.

Thanks for the detailed replies! Shame this can't be sorted but I suppose it doesn't matter all that much in the end.

At least it gives a sort of warning. A 700, which is Baliase driven for SDO, doesn't tell you the doors won't open until you're basically there!

That's odd. They give plenty of notice at Littlehaven and Ifield. Not only that, but the short platform announcements only go off in the affected coaches, which is nice for those that enjoy peace and quiet. I'm pretty sure they are direction specific too, e.g. no short platform message for Littlehaven in the down direction.

Yes, quite early on the MML for Hendon. Usually announced closer to the departure from the previous station than arrival into Hendon itself!

The 700 and 717s certainly seem to have some kind of override. At New Barnet you only get the notice northbound. Likewise on the 717s at places like Drayton Park you only get it Northbound (need to check if you still do now)

On all the electrostars it tells you, but if the doors can open then they do (assume the driver selects them all). Foxton, Meldreth and Shepreth are the only ones I use regularly where they have short platforms in 1 directions.

Even on the Turbostars, they tell you you have a short platform only to find the entire coach is on it.

In the last few months, 700s and 717s have been showing ALL doors as not opening at the next station. The doors do still open, but there must be something wrong with the recent PIS software. I've also seen one coach within the train showing it, when the ends are not.
