2L30 12:57 to Letchworth cancelled at Kings Cross just now, "due to a fault on this train (M8)" having arrived from Kings Lynn 21L.

Not a great start. There’s also a 4/387 floating around today as well.

It’s all very well sending 387s off to Southern, and 377s off to Southeastern, but not when GN users are now suffering cancellations - on top of all the infrastructure-related failures that have occurred over the last few months.

It’s nice to know my train is cancelled essentially so some Networkers can be off-leased.

Yes, 4 car 387 on 2C37 about to form 1T40 to Kings Lynn, it'll be a cosy one!

That is all from last night. With the disruption they couldn’t create a 12 car in the peak.

Does anyone know if the 1827 London - Cambridge will be 379 formed tonight? May hang around if it is.

See that seems pretty stupid given 387108 and 174 are in King's Lynn Platform 2 due to lack of crew for the 1342 departure to Kings Cross. Surely better do a set swap so its a 8 car set on 1T51 and only a 4 car set not in service at Kings Lynn.

Looks like they did a set swap at KGX. The 2C arrived into P9 but the 1T42 1T40 departed from P10. Looks like they cancelled the 2C42 15:57 Cambridge stopper and stepped up the set.

1T42 was supposed to be formed from 2R39 (the next journey of the cancelled 379 diagram I mentioned above) but left on time, presumably as 387s.

Just gone past me 1T40 is a 8 car 387-1 set

Yep, 1T40 is what I meant, now edited above!

Getting a little off topic discussing 387 set swaps, but in a way it's super relevant to the 379 introduction, since the root cause is 379 availability (that and crew shortage)

Southern is suffering a lot with a lot of unavailability of units and failure in service.

The whole cascade thing is not going well at present.

This then works;
2T92 1619 Cambridge - Ely
1T47 1648 Ely - Kings Cross
2C52 1827 Kings Cross - Cambridge, and
2C65 2026 Cambridge - Kings Cross
ECS to Hornsey Depot

This will be a regular 379 turn, likewise there's another pair balancing this starting at Hornsey and finishing Kings Lynn Stabling Siding although I don't have headcodes to hand for that.
I can confirm that 027 and 001 are about to depart King’s Cross with 2C52. My first GN commute with 379s…

Looks like we have 5 diagrams now, not sure if this one is correct

0656 Cambridge - Kings Cross (sometimes use this from WGC at 0751)
0842 Kings Cross - Kings Lynn
1042 Kings Lynn - Kings Cross
1257 Kings Cross - Letchworth
1427 Letchworth - Kings Cross
1542 Kings Cross - Kings Lynn
1740 Kings Lynn - Kings Cross
1957 Kings Cross - Letchworth
2127 Letchworth - Kings Cross
2239 Kings Cross - Kings Lynn

This matches with the ECS movement mentioned above.

Saying that new timetable on Sunday so all bets are off from then anyway. They may be on more diagrams to give them all day work, hopefully putting the 700s back on the peak only diagrams. In terms of "hours in service" or however you measure a train, I assume the 379s are much older then the 387s even with thier long period in storage.

GN certainly need to do something about the 1st class when they enter full service. Last night the train was full because of disruption, so the passengers chose to declassify it. Never know the rules on 387 operated services. (is the rear set declassified) never bother me as the 387s don't really have first class. However now the 379s offer a better product I am sure they will get a lot of issues with RPIs unless it is clear. Maybe a different thread.

First is only declassified on GN when using a class 700. 387s and 379s are classified first.

Do the 379s have a larger first class section than 387s?

First is never declassified on GN, no matter the stock. I asked this on another thread earlier.

This is not correct, rear first class is declassified on 700s on GN services, this has been discussed at length on many occasions now. The screens show the "standard class ticket holders" message, station displays state "First Class at the front" and RPIs have accepted my standard class tickets on many occasions, most recently yesterday morning.

They really have a first class section on the 379s. The area is physically larger taking the area from the cab to the 2nd doors. It is 2+1 seating. Apparently 20 first class seats looking on the internet. On the 387s it feels a about the same number allocated to first, however they are not actually first class seats.

GN once the 379s are in service could actually promote the first class accommodation as a more comfortable area to work / relax.

First class is always declassified at the rear on a 700 as others have stated.

379s have a very decent first class offering and they will be enforced. First class will always be at the London End so out of King's Cross you may get some people saying they thought it was declassified, but that will be through their own misunderstanding.

The CIS (platform displays) never said first class was declassified at the back - rather that it was at the front (Sevenoaks and some other TL services excepted that say there is no first class at all). If you didn't understand what that meant, you likely wouldn't use first at the back anyway as you might just think the train was the wrong way around.

Those that knew/know should know the reason and be fine, and recognise a 387 or 379 as being a different train type.

Long story short, first class exists at all times on 379s and 387s. The only caveat being that some 387s are extremely poorly marked for first class with no stickers or antimacassars for some reason (one of the ex GWR units is like this - bizarrely being one that has had a yellow strip put outside), and there's no way anyone would attempt to enforce first class in such specific examples. Not that I'd try it myself as I know it's meant to be first. It's just that many people wouldn't have a clue or be expected to notice.

The diagrams don't change much with the new timetable, but there should be an extra pair out on an all day circuit which replaces another pair of 387s.

That's correct, only thing to add is the 0656 from Cambridge is formed from the 0502 Kings Cross to Cambridge which in turn starts at Hornsey Depot

Thank you all for the corrections. I went and checked the thread and I actually misinterpreted what the person said. I have updated my post to clarify

I saw 379006 in Cambridge sidings today along with 001 & 027 paired up. Does anyone know what 006 was paired with as I couldn't get the number due to a 387 being in the way, thanks.

Seems to be manual PAs though onboard due to a fault according to driver on 1T53. And wifi is still GA branded. Carpet needs a clean but overall much better than a 387 interior comfort wise
