I noticed that, I think it is 387172. I was surprised to see it myself the other day.

Definitely 387172, I was on it this morning. Much nicer colour scheme (inside and out) than 'regular' GN 387s!

Though despite the cosmetic branding changes, they haven't fixed the wifi :( (still listed as 'GWR wifi', still not working).

387173 is in service on GN as well. Definitely agree the GWR interior is nicer than the Southern interior, which although is quite nice has become a bit “stale” after all these years.

Indeed - that was on my journey home! Same kaput wifi, unfortunately.

The contrast in appearance between the Southern and GWR ones when you have one of each coupled together is quite striking, the GWR green/dark is so much nicer than the GTR white/bright.

They're certainly at Klng's Lynn at the moment, I'm sitting on a Cambridge train ready to depart and they're in the adjacent siding.

Look in fairly decent condition externally, bit of paint needed but that's all. Interior looks ok too, as much as can be seen.
Couldn't see a path out for them all week on RTT so they may be there for a while!

Would expect to see paths in there if training was planned imminently so might be short term storage or static staff familiarisation?

All 379 training is an agreed static conversion from 387s.

The 379s up there will be moving, slightly...

Which 387s will be kept with GN to run along with the 379s when they're fully in service?

The plan was for it to be the lower-numbered 387/1s. There has been some debate over the exact number, but it was something like 387101-113.

An issue has arisen which has resulted in 387172-174 being returned from Southern and put back on GN work. Whether this results in a permanent change to things will remains to be seen. Probably doubtful as it seems the reason for choosing the lower numbered units was partly for ETCS reasons.

Indeed, it will depend on which / how many of the GTR 387s are to be fitted with Alstom (as opposed to Bombardier) ETCS.

Could this be another 379 on its way ?.

+
Most likely is. I can't think of anything else it could be.
Cancelled at Newark Northgate. Wonder where it all went next ?.

I was going to quip that maybe it was another EMU delivery having problems with the brakes.
Anyway I looked for any working starting from Newark Northgate and behold, 57303 with the below back to Worksop.

But behold - "This service was cancelled due to a problem with the brakes (MN).".

Incidentally, when are the Class 379 due to begin service?
I have seen an internal document today with an estimated start date for 379's being w/c 9th February.

it is expected that the first diagram worked will be a Kings X diagram with the passenger workings being -
1R09 0745 Letchworth - Kings X & 1L48 1724 Kings X - Letchworth
associated ECS workings 5R09, 5E16, 3L48 and 5L48.

The 2nd diagram is hoped to start w/c 23 February will be a Peterborough diagram with the passenger workings being -
1P85 0635 Peterborough - Kings X and 1P82 1642 Kings X - Peterborough
associated ECS workings 5P85#, 5E55, 3P82 and 5P82

Does this mean that the first Great Northern passenger working of a class 379 will be on Monday the 10th as 1R09/1L48 only run on weekdays (SSuX)

An amazing turnaround given that a comment earlier in this thread made it sound like the units were only fit for scrap!

While many are in a state, I'm sure they've been able to clean a few up.

Drivers are doing their conversion courses so hopefully by May there will be many more in service.

Noted yesterday (30.01.25) that there are two 379s stored in Wembley yard - amongst the stored 321s and 350s, one confirmed as 379001 and the other reported elsewhere to be 379010, but why are they there?

Couldn't they've taken then back to worksop?
Why though? Wembley isn’t a million miles away from Hornsey and they can run there (and stable) under their own power. The storage might range from a few days to a few weeks, but I’m sure it’s a lot easier to plan a Wembley to Hornsey move than a Hornsey to Worksop move. After all, A move back to Worksop involves a 57 (or suitably adapted loco or translator), crews, pathing etc.

At least at Wembley the units can be stabled with "pans up" and possibly cut in. Most of the other units there (321s and 350s) also have "pans up". I also wonder if there might be staff there keeping an eye on them, putting "pans up" and cutting them in/out as required.
