Great Malvern terminations?

I went up there not so long ago using a Rover on the £10:402? from Southampton and insted of going straight through I chose to break at Bristol then had to change at Worcster.
To answer you question Great Malvern is double track with 2 platforms and although I got the LM service there I suspect FGW just call at the station and the change ends and run back to worcster.

no, they go out of the station to the west. thats probly what OP is asking about. where does the train go for the few minutes before it comes back? because theres no sidings.

I was at Great Malvern a few years ago on a Sunday, at that time it was Thames trains. I noted one arrived from London then left the station & waited
outside for about 30 minutes, then came back on the Up about 5 minutes
before it's departure back to London.
Lot of history at this station, especially the special covered walkway to the
girls boarding school from the station platform built by GWR ,un used for years, wonder if its still there.
One wonders if any of these had terminations at Great Malvern,as the thread says.

I can't say for certain, having never been in that area, but according to Google Maps there are three-track sections beyond Great Malvern.

It heads off down to Malvern Wells signal box, Id presume its due to the only way it can be signalled back the other way.

Yes you are correct, I recall the train leaving and parking up by the signal box
before returning. It was a Thames Turbo.
If you look at the same location on Bing Maps arial view you will see a 3 car unit to the north of Peachfield road. Sorry but I cant see how to get a link to that location directly, but this will take you to Great Malvern just work your way about 1km south from the station.

Do a search for "Peachfield Road, (Great) Malvern" in Aerial view. The map will pan immediately west of the bridge. The Turbo can be seen in this view (you may need to move up ever so slightly in full zoom). I copied the exact link to this post initially, but using it directed me to a site in the Atlantic Ocean off Central Africa - even while displaying "Peachfield Road, Malvern"! :?

Blasted Bing Maps!After Malvern Wells, the section from there to Ledbury is single line IIRC, so there's no room really to run it on to Hereford.
Service i think you're on about is the Bristol-Malvern, which used to terminate at Worcester Shrub Hill(Bay Platform)but was extended under Wessex Trains.
There's 2 places Trains can be turned around at Malvern: There's a set of sidings(forget the name)just before the Road Bridge. Traincrew need to contact Malvern Wells SB to confirm the train has arrived, and the signaller will pull off the signal(position light i think).
The other more common is the other side of the Road Bridge, where there's a signal located. just across from Malvern Wells SB so the signaller pulls off automatically.

The Planner has it right, stuff terminating at Great Malvern goes off to Malvern Wells and returns normally just a few minutes before departure. It is indeed the only way to reverse something at Great Malvern, no cross-over at the east end of the shack.
That walkway someone mentioned, it was still there in October 2009 when I last visited the shack.
Slightly off-topic, but I can recommend the tea room at Great Malvern. Really nice place to enjoy a hot chocolate whilst waiting for the train. That said, all of Malvern is quite nice to have a wander about during a wait for the train. Need to re-visit it one day and actually visit the town itself next time.
Also, anyone know if the semaphores between Malvern Wells and Shelwick Junction are still there?

Looks like it defaults to 0'N 0'E. It came up Ok for me the first time but when I clicked to zoom in it shot off to the Atlantic Ocean.
Much prefer Google Maps

They should be, Im not aware of it being re-signalled at any point.
