Great heritage railways to visit

Can anyone reconmend any good heritage railways which are easy to get to by public transport?

I have already visited the dean forest and the glouceshire & warickshire railways and i was planning to vist the east lancashire railway next saturday, sadly that has been thrown into the air because there are no trains between Hereford & shrewsbury and its too expensive to go via bristol parkway and get a crosscountry service from there.

any ideas?

The Severn Valley Railway is easy to get to by public transport. Its station at Kidderminster is nextdoor to the mainline station.

I have had a look at this but it will take over 3 hours and i have to change at Birmingham new street

Well most railways are going to several hours away from South Wales. I'd have thought it would have taken a few hours to get to the ELR.

SVR and GWR are good ones nearby to you

4.5 hours if no diversions or engineering works, however had a look for next saturday and it will take at least 6-7 hours which i dont fancy. As for the severn valley railway i wouldnt mind going there apart from that i dont fancy changing trains at Birmingham new stret

You can change at Cheltenham Spa and Worcester if you want to avoid Birmingham.

even through its to far away to get to in one day from SW i reccomend the Swanage railway great choice of stock including a Devon belle observation car fair length at 6 miles
not forgetting the historic corfe castle

If you were ever near nuneton (can't spell) I would suggest the battlefield line at shackerstone, it is really annoying to get to, but it is brilliant!
