I don't know if anyone else saw this weeks episode but it was quite a shock to see Ian throw away his work, especially since Chetna had the same issues with the ice cream melting! On twitters there's lots of controversy surrounding Diana and her actions some even saying she sabotaged his show stopper. I think she took it out by accident because she was stressed looking for room in the freezer for her bake. I do think that they should have re-done this week like they did a few series ago when that guy cut his finger!

Did anyone else see this weeks episode, if so what do you think abot the incident?

Love the show, can't believe Iain got kicked off, he was so sweet :( I do think it was bang out of order though from Diana.

All the internet backlash has been quite funny though. At one point, they listed Diana's occupation as "Ice Cream Melting Supervillian / Bake Off Sabotage Professional"

Indeed, twitter was in total outrage with Diana, JusticeForIain and gbbo all trending at the same time! She should have at least told him she was taking it out so he could do something about it!! I think someone's been editing Wikipedia because the GBBO series 5 page history has dozens of modifications all from tonight about Diana!

Have registered my complaint with the BBC. Diana should have been kicked out for deliberate sabotage, her reaction when Iain found his melted ice cream showed that she thought it hilarious. At the very least, Iain should have been given extra time to make his ice cream and the judge's decision made once he'd finished. All the other Alaskas (Alaskae?) could have been judged when they were ready.

In my mind the show has lost a lot of credibility and its integrity should be called in to question.

Call me cynical, but this was all filmed back in May... perhaps it's just a ruse to generate some faux outrage and free publicity in order to increase the viewing figures for next week when justice will be done!

According to Sue Perkins on Twitter it was only out of the freezer for 40 seconds. As she said, that wasn't enough to turn it to soup.

The guy shouldn't have thrown it in the bin, as they could have judged the rest of it. Doing that meant they had no choice but to eliminate him.

As they are also saying in Twitter, only the British could get so worked up over a baking contest!

I think that's why they illuminated him, let's face it Chetna's Alaska went like his too (she was at one point using her hands to shape it in the freezer!) but she still presented it. I think that's what Mary found unacceptable that he flipped out so quickly and presented a bin!

And I do think this sums up the fact that the general public seem to be more outraged about Diana taking ice cream out of the freezer than they do about anything else going on! #GBBO and other related #tags I think had more tweets than the other main news events last night!

It is such a british show though, baking in tent in front of a big house with Mary Berry!

Quite....

Iain's ice cream was in trouble (i.e. not freezing hard enough) before that point, and that round was one where the contestants design their own recipe and can test it beforehand. There have been equally bad disasters in past series but no-one has given up like that (as far as I remember).

Diana now quits Great British Bake Off shock horror probe

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/great-british-bake-off/11061578/Diana-quits-Great-British-Bake-Off.html

The episode was filmed in the spring and a BBC spokesman said Diana fell ill on the eve of the next instalment.

“The night before episode five, Diana made a decision not to come back This is not connected in any way to what happened in episode four,” the spokesman said.

Diana made no mention of her departure when she gave a tearful interview today insisting that she had been “stitched up” by the programme editors and was not the villain of the piece. She claimed “the knives were out” for her.

(even though it was all filmed months ago?)

Even though it is filmed back in spring they have to act as if it's happening now so they've probably had a statement ready to go out for weeks now.

Just because someone has an opinion on this subject doesn't mean they don't give a toss about anything else!

British Bake Off contestant Iain Watters refuses to rule out a return to the show saying he doesn't hold a grudge after his culinary flop.

Err... but this was all filmed months ago, so they must already know if he did...

Surely the honest and trustworthy BBC wouldn't manufacture a fake "storm in a cup-cake" row, and then drip these revelations out one by one just to increate ratings :)

After all, they are going to be one contestant down now, so they will be one show short...

At least this means no-one out next week. Gives Norman another week to be stubborn.

And there were the jokes:

In the final it's usually three enter with one winner. They could just have two entering instead this year instead of having a free round

But that means there would be no tension, and no "reveal" at the end to stop viewers channel hopping.

Now if only there was someone who could take Diana's place... :)

I hugely doubt Ian would be going back into the tent, given what he's said on Twitter and the GBBO program last night with Jo Brand.
