Will a Intel chipset with 128mb UMA shared graphics run BVE 4 without need for the patches OK, or is it the chipset I want to avoid.

There is a better Laptop I'm looking at at PCworld (slightly slower processor, double RAM though) but it has "128MB UMA Shared Graphics" on a "Intel Shared Graphics" card.

I don't want to need the patches as I've used a SiS graphics set for BVE and I was missing out on alot, so want to avoid missing out this time

My laptop runs on shared graphics and BVE runs better than my dedicated graphics card in my PC.

Well, on that laptop it will run pretty well, it's just you need a patch on some LU routes for Intel/SiS graphics cards. Will this laptop need these or not

Lets put it this way, I've never experianced the cabs going dark through tunnels etc, or the signal glow, and was only getting 11 fps, so I'm going to be easily impressed, I just don't want to need the patches as I would also like to have a go on the Piccidilly line, but the author hasn't released a patch IIRC

Just to let you know, I've got the laptop, runs BVE at about 15-20fps but I'm still missing the cabs going dark effect and signal glow.

Still a cracking deal though for £400

EDIT: just changed the settings to 16-bit rather than 32, and I've got all the effects, BVE is trully awsome
