Grantham signalling issues-strange train delay!

Big problems in Grantham area, with track circuit failure apparently.

Does anyone know what happened to this train which apparently went back in time between Nottingham and Grantham?

I assume it went Grantham - Nottingham - Loughborough - Melton Mowbray - Peterborough.

I don't agree it went back in time )), the train probably went back through previous passing points and caused the data to be overwritten.

There is no other explanation I can think of, unless someone else can?

Seems like it avoided Nottingham and went onto Bingham, then reversed back to Nottingham. Then split and ran fast to Grantham, missing out Bingham and Aslockton.

Looking at the data, and based on a similar occurance last week, I'd say this was correct.

Yorkie's suggestion sounds much more likely, and indeed achievable . It's fairly common for these trains to be diverted via Melton, and the reported times from Grantham back as far as Mansfield Jn (apart from Bingham, where trains are reported manually) support this.

After reading what Yorkie put, that does make a lot of sense

Having been on the ECML today I got caught up in this.

Apparently the issue was the points that allow access to Platform 4 were being manually clipped for Nottingham trains.

That is indeed the case. The train was trapped at Grantham, having arrived only about 6 minutes late i believe. It then returned to Nottingham to travel via Melton Mowbray - which took a further 78 minutes to get it to Peterborough. The usual priority is to run the ECML and divert Norwich - Liverpool services via Melton Mowbray.

So after a great day on 16th January when 100%ppm was achieved on the ECML - God Bless efficient signallers... The line went to three consecutive days of delays. Not good; some more unfortunate than others.

If only Barkston Junction chord was still there trains could have saved some delay...
