Looking for the best ticket(ing) deal arriving Manchester no later than 5pm Sunday 28th Nov returning friday afternon/evening. Same journey out Sunday 5th back Friday 10th Dec.

No railcards.

All options considered including split ticketing/rovers-rangers etc.

An Off Peak Return from Grantham to Manchester is £45.70
I can't find any large savings by splitting
Grantham - Sheffield OPR is £23.60
Sheffield - Manchester OPR is £17.50
Total - £41.10

Slightly cheaper is to split at Doncaster but that would mean a change of trains.
Grantham - Doncaster OPR is £21.40
Doncaster - Manchester (Via Sheffield) is £18.70
Total - £40.10

I think you have probably left it too late to get any cheaper by Advance Purchase but this journey can be done quite cheaply by booking a feww weeks in advance with East Midlands trains.
