I've just had a look at GC'S website,its been revamped so i checked out the gallery,there is now 4 new photos of the powercars in the workshop,but did a double take when i saw that one of them is an ex GNER powercar,i phoned a mate(a GC employee)to see if that was correct,he said it was and that the powercar will be the first in the paintshop to have the offending paint work removed,marvellous !!

Does anyone know if GC are going to remove the buffers on the HST Power Cars? :???:

I totally disagree. I love the buffers, gives them more character and makes them look more like a proper train.

If these are power cars which have been OOU for years then probably a good idea to keep the buffers for ease of rescue aswell!

The buffers should stay, it just looks right. Besides, if they happen to fail, then a loco can come and rescue them with less problems!

Have heard today that the refurbed sets will go into warm store at Heaton until the fleet is ready for squadron entry to service.

Removal of buffers would require endless red tape...far easier to keep them.

No...They'll be prepared for failures...Aesthetics is not important here. Although I have to say they look just fine to me with the buffers on them!

I would prefer them to keep the buffers simply because it provides a throwback to what they were originally used for.

wo! For those pictures Are they using that yellow one? Has the banna HST got its powercars still or do the NR have more than two HSTs?Still be good when they first start running , anyone have any idea on what type of motor there using , MTU , Valenta? , Paxman? , VP185?

The photos are in the number 3 shop at Devonport Dockyard, I think that they were taken sometime at the beginning of March. Its fair to point out that Devonport Dockyard also has a contract for GNER at the moment and I'm not sure which power car is for who?

No GNER powercars at Devonport. There are currently two there for FGW.

Evening chaps,nice to see my post started a debate.Firstly,the buffers are staying on the powercars,secondly,the coaching stock refurb is well advanced,and lastly,there will be a full train set released into traffic at some point in june for tests,then in early july that set will run as ECS to allow staff training to be complete,it will run in timetabled paths as well.Brother Darandio,get yourself down to eaglscliffe in july !!!

I presume you are referring to my statement. Read it again.

Nothing to do with GNER. They are 086/196 IIRC for fitting with overhauled Valenta's for reinstatement to try and ease FGW's fleet 'issues'.

I already told you; both Valentas and VP185s are made by Paxman!

The only other type of HST engine is Mirrlees.

There's only one NMT as such, but NR have at least 4 power cars for it, which they rotate as neccessary. Sometimes they're substituted with DRS 37s, these days anyway, though Network Rail/RVE 31s aren't impossible.
