Grand Central train reliability issues

Grand Central has been suffering almost daily cancellations and problems due to train failures. Are these with the 180s or HSTs?

Well, when I came back from St. Neots to Peterborough yesterday afternoon (on the 1615 train) - just as we pulled out of Huntingdon, a 180 GC train came hammering through...

Problem was, we seemed to be keeping pace with it, as, when we got to Holme (where the 3 tracks go down to 2) we were held for a couple of minutes whilst the GC train cleared the section(s) ahead.

We then moved onto the main line and were running on single yellows behind it until again behind held just South of Peterborough, whilst a VTEC train headed south.

The problem seems to have been going on for a number of weeks now with no solution. Not good for a company that usually has a great reputation.

Arriva have now been involved for a while. Watch for the cost-cutting and accompanying service deterioration.

I was always a huge supporter of GC and travelled with them over EC but their service has deteriorated. The last time i travelled there was no staff to be seen, the buffet had no hot drinks, no alcoholic drinks and just crisps as a savoury snack. Rubbish compared to when they first started.

I believe one of their 180s was badly damaged in a fatality and they essentially have no spare fleet at the moment due to other problems so they can't cover any problems that may arise on the day.

As a regular traveller on their services, my only gripe with them is crowding but there's not much they can do until GWR's 180s are released.

Haven't GC got a 180 in for internal refurbishment at the moment plus if one is off track after a fatality and usual failures. They have always run on a shoe string it's normally the Bradfords that suffer with 180 failures

I was in York the other day seeing a friend on to a GC train to Sunderland. The train was cancelled between London KGX and York. It was due to an HST fault at KGX and a 180 had to cover but it arrived at Sunderland 30mins late so of what I understand it's the faulty HSTs as the problem

It seems that GC are trying to run things on a bit of a shoestring at the minute. It'll still be a shame to see the HSTs go though.

The refurbishment is being covered by one ex-FGW 180 I believe.

Wasnt aware the 180s were being refurbed, whats the spec?
Also wasnt aware they had another 180 out after a fatality, what was the extent of the dammage? Thanks in anticipation.
