180s turning up on different diagrams seems to be becoming more common - on Sunday, the first train out of King's Cross was 180105 instead of the booked HST.

There was a FGW Livery (112) on yesterday, mid-day southbound. Very common now indeed.

112 is in Grand Central colours, 105 is the First Group liveried one. There is one diagram for the 180, the 09.18 ex Sunderland and 16.50 back.

Might be more common in the near future...as i browsed through a freinds copy of modern railways the other day and noticed that, with the new East Coast franchise rather low on stock, and the new East Coast managers are going off the idea of 180s... that one idea listed was to possibly swap the East Coast alicated 180s with GC for there HST sets...

but even that still leaves East Coast short of stock!

So who knows what the future holds...Knowbody knows and Knowbody can predict with railways anymore...

Surely for GC's HSTs to be any use to East Coast they'd need a whole load more carriages converted, and the MTU engines fitted, unless East Coast fancy running a sub-fleet of short trains with old engines?

if it wasn't for the large amount of work required, it would sound like a smart plan (and maybe they can finally remove the ugly buffers from the power cars too), leaving GC with a uniform fleet as well. But that sounds expensive.

IF such a swap happened then I guess the 2+7's would just stay on the Lincoln diagrams, I can't see them ever needing 2+9, saying that the 180's would be perfect for that daigram as well!

I can see why the East Coast operator would like a standardish fleet, but the 180's are perfect for the Lincoln route. I guess standard fleet would suit GC as well, but I would guess it isn't to thier benefit to give up the HST's.

Are there any spare mk3's left now to do a mk3 and 90 combo? Again perfect for the York stopper!

There was a thread a while back started by 37401 showing that Angel or Porterbrook were saying that NXEC had leased some

Think they've now relinquished the Mk 3 lease haven't they? Not sure where I heard that, probably someone making it up on here!

I am sure you are, I think that is how come Virgin managed to get hold of their mk3's for thier relief set (they were going to use 180's). Maybe East Coast could hire it off Virgin. <D

Thing that i dont get is...why does eveyone suddenly want to go to Lincoln from London...Especially when EMT run theres...from the station just next door...

As for the Mk3s...Well, theres a simple option...

Ex Irish Rail Mk3s !!!!!!

Stop IE from scrapping them, bring them back over here and light refurb them, and of course sort out the bogies...simples

EMT's service is not intended for Lincoln - London passengers it is to provide more seats on the Lincoln - Nottingham route and free up DMU's for elsewhere. It just happens to go to London. It is too slow for anyone to use it, you can still change at Newark and do it quicker and cheaper.
