Just in from Grand Central:
"New rail service proposals for North Lincolnshire and Yorkshire"
Grand Union, a sister company to Grand Central Railway Company (Grand Central), has responded to a recent Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) request to advise ORR of any further service developments being considered that would use capacity on the East Coast Main Line (ECML).
Following successful launch of Grand Centrals services from Sunderland to London Kings Cross in December, further services between London Kings Cross and Sunderland are proposed, with some services also serving Middlesbrough and Thornaby.
In addition, a formal submission to the ORR to operate services between London Kings Cross and Bradford (via Pontefract and Halifax) is expected before the end of this month, along with services between Bradford/Huddersfield and London Euston on the West Coast Main Line (WCML).
Three further new service proposals are at a very early stage of evaluation and, as with previous Grand Central and Grand Union applications, they seek to restore direct links to sizeable populations by utilising the current infrastructure. These are:
1. Cleethorpes London Kings Cross calling at: Grimsby Town, Habrough, Scunthorpe, Thorne South and Doncaster.
2. Scarborough London Kings Cross calling at: Seamer, Malton, and York.
3. Huddersfield to London Kings Cross calling at: Mirfield, Wakefield
Kirkgate, Rotherham, Meadowhall, Sheffield, Worksop and Retford.
Ian Yeowart Managing Director of Grand Union states:
The development of Grand Centrals Sunderland services has shown what a boost new direct inter-city links are for towns and cities long removed from the inter-city network. We plan to use our knowledge and experience to bring these new additional services into operation, where we can make a good economic case, and look forward to working with the many stakeholders who would benefit from them.
