Grand Central doesnt exist according to National Rail planner

On the journey planner on the national rail website I'm typing in York to Sunderland. it is giving me 2 changes and no grand central services! Can anyone shed any light?

yes it seems to work that way round, but try york to sunderland tomorrow!
it worked when i clicked the 'show diect trains only option' but that's not the point! two changes?! im baffled.

Sussed it. it's telling me to go via Newcastle and the Metro. Funny thing is its completely omitting GC services. I wouldn't be happy about that!

I have included "Hartlepool" in the "VIA" box. That has worked for me.

Dont get me wrong dave, im having no problem finding them, not to a relatively clued up traveller, clicking a few buttons here and there and so on, but if i was a normal passenger, i wouldnt have even been offered the GC option on a standard York-Sunderland journey search and they are the only direct service...very strange indeed!

The 18:47 (arrive 20:35) doesn't show up because it is overtaken by taking the 18:53 (arrive 20:31)

I didn't have a problem with the other departures appearing.

Yes that was he service i was after! It also doesnt show other service combinations routed via Teesside and the coast, which seems unfair on the public considering tickets via the coast are half the price of the mainline!

I had the same problem looking for WSMR services , found them in the end, then again I was looking on the Nationalised Express site.

I've yet to get NRE to show me a route from the North Wales Coast to London using WSMR, despite it being a permitted route on map WS.

Most online journey planners will ignore any journeys that require you to start earlier and arrive later, often even if they're cheaper. For a route from North Wales to London, travelling on Virgin from Chester will be a lot quicker than using WSMR!

Yes, unfortunately for any open access operators that have to run slow, such as WSMR. What befuddles me is that I can't get NRE to show a journey involving a WSMR leg, even when using 'via', 'avoids', 'changing at', avoiding specific operators, and showing overtaken trains. It led me to believe that a WSMR-based journey was not a valid route for journeys from the North Wales coast.
