To lose its valenta? Doubt it, as the MTUs in FGW,NXEC & XC dont meet current emision standards I dont think, and they are no longer in production

You're right. They aren't but they have to be fitted before 31st December 2009 as after that, they can't have Grandfather rights. So even though they aren't in production, they can still be fitted.

Anyone know if the first class upgrade for £15 on weekends is still going? Noticed it in the GC magazine online but the issue is from April.

Had two trips on GC over the weekend. The 06.53 from Sunderland - York on Saturday, and the 18.48 York - Sunderland back. Was most impressed with the passenger numbers. Good to see a decent rider ship developing.

Was very impressed with how many people got on the 12:30 yesterday in Sunderland, sharp contrast from when I saw the same service a few months ago! It's good to see less GC caused delays as well.

...yeah when I first saw it idling at york was virtually empty - think I only saw one woman in a carriage. stark contrast to last week, when it seemed to be quite brisk in there, and that was the return journey too (london - sunderland)...

MTU are still producing engines. The MTU application in the Class 43 is perfect, clean burning, far more reliable and hey, for sound value, beat those Smokey Joe Valenta's hands down.

But AFAIK, the engine in XC, FGW & NatEx isnt in production.

Glad to hear not everyone's minds have gone all MTU! Anyone who's sampled Valentas working hard and sounding fantastic would surely not be able to vote in favour of the MTU for audio entertainment!

And with that I've changed my mind again for December! Going to be a busy month, with 2 tours and a GC bash to do during the course of December! hock:

What I've been wanting to ask for ages too is this: Any sign at all of an upcoming promo on GC tickets? I need to get a GC trip in again but £71 is a lot of money to me!

Yes I did, many years ago in the Power Car that was named "City of Newcastle", once based at Heaton. Dunno the number though. Was also in the sheds on nights with those things running pushing out that much smoke I could hardly see a thing. The MTU in contrast, actually have a great sound, combust the fuel well with an exhaust heat haze emmitted that a Valenta could only dream of...Move on Valenta lovers, the MTU is king.

no, if you're a rail enthusiast and if you photograph or film then the things you want is a huge noise and lots of fumes and the valenta in gc's hst's gives you all of that, the mtu on the other hand doesn't...
