yesterday...

Yeah it derailed when coming out of heaton...

What they did was took it to Newcastle to load for Sunderland passengers and Darlington for Hartlepool and Eaglescliffe...

Filmed a GC adelante go through york yesterday from nrm balcony...

Where do you people get your info from ???? gnerman please re-read your post,if it did derail then how come it went to ncle and darlington as you say ?? IT DID NOT DERAIL !! 5A60 left heaton and approaching ncle there was a brake fault(train wire snapped within E70 Brake Unit),train stopped safely and then returned to heaton for attention/repair and then left to travel via ecml to pick up working(albeit slightly late !!)I was at heaton on that day and there was no mention of ANY derailment,I spoke to the fitter who repaired affected loco as he travelled with me on 180105staff training run !! gnerman it appears you make it up as you go along son !!<(<(

sorry to start a row - my original enquiry as to damage was after noticing entry in toc control log which mentioned derailment - glad that it wasnt correct.

if only the 180's could be used sooner to help the current fleet, i think they really need new rolling stock, whether that be a meridian style demu from or that new polaris unit they were looking it would certainly help the service...

Unless they've really got the things ready I think the 180s will probably make things worse!

Let's just say it never rains but it pours!!! I think some of the bits in the trains must have been busses in a past life, in that they fail in multiples!! lol

This is the problem with the current system - indie open operators simply don't have the resources to maintain decent reliability. If I had the power, I'd nationalise the franchised TOCs (thereby reforming British Rail) along with all the ROSCOs. Open Access operators would then rent their fleet from British Rail who would be responsible for maintenance of the units. In the event of a failure, open access operators would have access to a pool of unbranded BR units so they could maintain a service.

One of the 180s just passed my NXEC 225 while we waited in Newcastle Central. It's just about debranded, though the "First" lettering on the nose has been rearranged to read "Pist" :D

THE businessman who was the driving force for getting direct train services from Calderdale to London has left his job.
Ian Yeowart has parted company with Grand Central and while the train firm's bosses insist his standing down will not affect the new service they say the introduction could be delayed until the new year.

Grand Central chairman Giles Fearnley said the company remained committed to the district and was in advanced talks about leasing additional trains. The Calderdale – London link has approval to start from December.

Just an update from RAIL Issue 621:
"GC 'Adelante' spruced up ahead of entry into traffic"
The first Grand Central Class 180 Adelante, 180105, is due to move to Railcare Wolverton for a refresh ahead of its entry into traffic. The five car 125mph diesel multiple unit (DMU) is currently being used for crew training, and was expected to move following the arrival of 180112, as RAIL went to press. The two DMU's will enter traffic on the London Kings Corss - Sunderland trains alongside the open access operators HSTrains. The unit will be re-upholstered, fitted with at-seat sockets and be made WiFi Accessible in line with the Grand Central HST Fleet. Its catering facilities will also be upgraded, and it will undergo a deep clean. Spokesman Rupet Brennan-Brown explained it would not enter trafficv until the second train, 180112, had been treated at Railcare.

The trains were previously used by First Great Western (FGW), and are leased from Angel Trains. GC is launching a fourth direct train to London in December, and this decision allowed the operate to lease the two 180's."

Also in the article, a list of current 180 operators is shown:
GC: 180105/112
HT: 180104/109/110/111/113
Northern: 180103/106/108
Off-lease: 180101/102/107/114

Another few updates found in issue 621:
"GC applies for Craigentinny Access"
Open access operator Grand Central has applied to amend its track access agreement so it can reach Craigentinny Depot, Edinburgh, for tyre turning. The route involves reversal at Edinburgh Waverley. GC also wishes to add the route between Hartburn and Stockton Cut Junctions, reversing at Thornaby, as a diversionary route for use in times of disruption.

Another update:
"Yeowart leaves GC" - Already posted i know.
Grand Central lost the man who led the company to open access when Ian Yeowart suddenly left the company in June. GC would not comment on whether he resigned, was made redundant or dismissed, but RAIL understands that he attended an appeal meeting before he left. Yeowart, who was formally the managing director of Grand Union, fought hard for the East Coast open access paths, first for Sunderland (GC) and later for Bradford (GU), both running to London.

one PC down out of six isnt really a problem, just as long as nothing else goes pop before it gets back!
