Grand Central at Crewe

Just about to leave The Railway Age at Crewe this afternoon and a Grand Central meridian appeared on the approach to Crewe from Manchester. The leading car was numbered 50905. Anyone know what this move is for?

180105 running from Longsight after bogie repairs, back to Heaton. Due to limited route clearance it has to go via the Midlands and up through Derby to get back North.

No matter where it appeared, since EMT are the only operator of Meridians, this is by far the most unusual bit of the thread

For the OP's future reference if you search for Grand Central you will find a few threads that tell you that this is quite a common occurrence as maintenance of the 180's is undertaken at longsight and the HST's at Crewe LNWR If I can remember correctly. The search function should highlight them and to see paths for the moves I would suggest Real Time Trains Advanced Search.

I think he means ZEPHYR and seen as he mentions the coach number of 180105, I think it is plainly possible he has got slightly mixed up and doesn't mean a 222 unit. They are of course Adelante units, GC called them Zephyr trains to some staff before they were taken over by Arriva. The name was stupid in a way they called them after slow moving aircraft that work by highly flammable gasses inflating a balloon causing lift that was very dangerous. Not ideal for reassuring pax about a fast and safe journey but I don't know whether its still in use today

If I recall correctly when, Grand Central was launched, they had an 1930's American theme, so the use of the "Zephyr" name is not surprising.

Do what? A zephyr is a wind not an airship. Perhaps you're thinking of a Zeppelin?
