Just on the subject of GC, has anyone else encountered advanced ticket booking errors. When you try and book with a 16-25 card, it comes up with an 'over 60s' ticket. I guess this is meant for a senior railcard, but possibly the equiverlent price of a 16-25 discounted advanced ticket.

No error I'm afraid, this is a specific over-60s ticket which GC offer, doesn't need a Senior Railcard. They don't accept Railcards. If you look down the prices of each ticket, the Network tickets fall by 1/3 when you add a railcard but the GC specific ones don't.

On the 2 for 1 offer, they've missed a trick on the 23rd August as Sunderland are playing Spurs in London, but the last train leaves London at 1650. Could they have rescheduled the 1650 to more like the Sunday 1820 or is it not that easy?

train crew hours makes it very difficult to do. Besides, what would we do for two hours having brought the train down? The only way to do it would be to retime the 1230 SUN-KGX to later...

It is not that easy. They would have to run an additional and then an ECS back from London

The EMT crew on the Sunday Leicester to York and back generally spend the afternoon shopping in York before bringing the unit back having stabled it at York all day!

Is anyone having trouble getting the 2 for 1 working on the GC website?

I'm trying to book a ticket for myself and Vegetable for KGX-Sunderland on Sat 23rd.
I select the origin (Kings Cross) , destination (Sunderland), passengers (2) and class (Standard) and it brings up the list of prices.

I click on the price '£34.50' for the 1127 outbound and the 1730 return train, select Print@Home and on the confirmation screen it then shows £34.50 each (£69 total).

Does that £34.50 already take into account the 2 for 1 deal?
(I can't believe the ordinary advance return would be £69, as that's about the same price as a Saver on the same route).

Anyone got any ideas?

Yes it does, and yes it is, and it's £30 less than the route "Any Permitted" saver (there is - or was - a route "Darlington" but thetrainline no longer lists it - I wonder if NXEC withdrew it?).

I think it's a good offer but it is misleading

1) People may expect a railcard discount
2) It is actually advance purchase

So, in both cases it's not a like-for-like 2-for-one.

In other words, you can't get two railcard-discounted Savers for the price of one railcard-discounted Saver. You actually get two non-discounted Advance Purchase tickets for the price of one non-discounted Saver.

So, it's a good deal, but not as good as you have been led to believe.

False advertising? Maybe.

RE retiming the train on a Saturday, appreciate this would be difficult logistically. Unless GC take advantage of the massive support both Sunderland and Newcastle take away and hire in the 67s every couple of weeks or so and bring back the days of the football special?? Huh?? (Yeah I wouldn't wanna staff/police that either)

Not directly related to the 2 for 1, but that's an interesting point, looking yesterday for a trip up north in a couple of months, the GC only off standard peak was the same price as a First Class Saver, or over twice the price of a standard saver with railcard discount, vaild on the same train.
