I also have both.

Xbox I use for driving games, ps3 for shooters.

I have to say that I didn't like GTA prologue on the PS3, I just can't get with the spongy triggers when trying to feather the throttle. This is easy on the Xbox in PGR and Forza2 which is why I play those and keep the xbox.

Do you get the same issue? It might just be the fact that I bought the xbox first and am more used to it, but for me, the controller on the xbox is way ahead of the PS3.

Still, can't beat COD4 on PS3, singly the most brilliant, entertaining and frustratingly annoying game ever made.

It could be the fact that Forza's physics engine is dumbed down slightly in comparison. Having recently driven a Lamborghini I can vouch for how carefully 500brake needs to be deployed! I got a PS3 ready for this, rumoured 1000 cars and 24 AI opponents. Each full version of GT doesn't just raise the bar, it pole vaults over it and is always awesome. The new physics will allow for rolling the car, damage is finally included both visually and effecting the handling, and about 140 will have visible damage from the inside view. WRC and Nascar licensing was a masterstroke, as manufacturers can't complain like they used to because the terms of those racing in either competition they have given commercial rights such as games licensing to the organisers. It'll be good/stroke bad to see a tonked F40, especially if photo mode is included like in GT4.
I've got a new fotopic gallery at www.gtshots.fotopic.net it already has my GT4 stuff transferred across so have a look if you're interested

Well, I actually think that making the game more realistic is the wrong way to go.

When you steer with your thumbs, accelerate and brake with your fingers, can't feel the grip or feel any relative speed, making a game more lifelike is just stupid because you cannot feel the car moving like a real car, so whats the point in making it behave like one? Only if you have feather fingers can you do it.

Of course they have to make the game "better, faster, more features etc etc" but really, the fact that GT doesn't have damage is one of the reasons I liked it. Forza damage is just about right.

Exactly.
And this is the reason that I still think GT3 is the best one in the series.
It's graphics are still pretty good by today's standards, despite it being 8 years old, and it's relatively realistic whilst still being fun with just a controller.
This is the problem I have with the GTs after 3; that driving a car IRL is completely different to doing so in a game with a controller, you can't judge things in the same way when doing it in an actual car and when doing it sitting in your house looking at a screen, and therefore making it more realistic just becomes pointless once you get beyond a certain point.

It's also interesting to note that almost none of the footage in the video appears to be actual gameplay.

So there's no point having a shaky scope on sniper rifle, or a run button on the shooting games as a pad is unrealistic? They do it because it makes the pad difficult to master, just like the driving a tuned sports car is difficult to master, but in a different way.

Confused...So you mean all of the video is fake and GT5 will look something completely different??

I have played all the GT series and to be honest, it was the non existent damage that turned it down, but it was all good none the less. Now with damage it should be much better, I do wonder why people prefer a game to have no damage at all and to be able to drive on as normal, for me damage is part of the fun, if I crash and smash it it to the point it makes me loose, its my fault for being too hard on the track.

I can't imagine going into a showroom and going 'have you got a car that doesn't break if you smash into a wall? I prefer to have no damage'

I said that it doesn't appear to be gameplay footage, I didn't say it's fake. My point is that the gameplay may not look quite as realistic as the advert shows, that's all.

Yes, but with the GT series they say they're making it as realistic as possible, not as difficult to master as possible, there's a difference. The point I was making is that if they make GT too realistic then it becomes extremely difficult to master using just the controller.

Your measure of whether you're driving your car too hard is that you crash it or damage it?
I prefer to try and avoid damaging or crashing the car at all.

I can't quite explain it properly, but I just don't think the GT series has improved that much, if at all really, since 3, hence why it's my favorite and I'm still sticking with it.

I wonder if they will put Tourist Trophy on the PS3, the PS2 version is good and bad, good because it has a wide range of bikes and tracks bad because they have 2 Bikes on the track and you start miles away from the leader

I do wonder how one can judge what is realistic and what is not in terms of feel, physics and control when most people that will play this game (or any other racing game) will never of driven any of the cars round any of the circuits.

It doesnt matter how "realistic" a game is claimed to be...it will be nothing like the real thing which begs the question what is the point and how far do you take it?

Even driving a car at 30mph in real life on normal roads is nothing like driving at 30mph on normal roads in a game.

IMO, developers should concentrate on the visual and features aspects rather than trying to make control of the car ultra realistic.

90019 - No, sorry I should explain better myself. What I mean is I know a few people who say they prefer not to have damage so they can race...in other words if they make a mistake and career into a wall, they prefer it didn't damage so their mistake is not penalized. If I crash into a wall as I accidentally pushed the car to hard round a corner (i.e doing 120 instead of 50 on a real tight bend) then I deserve to go into the wall and end up damaging the car, that's my fault so because I'm damaged I'll make sure not to go off again.....and all of that would actually happen if you were in a real car

The difference being that if you did it in a real car you probably wouldn't be able to continue in the race.

Indeed, and of course it depends if you went sideways into the wall via the sandpit, you could get away with it. I Love TOCA race driver for damage, if you get minor damage, your ok, or maybe you knock out the gear box, but too much damage, the race ends

indeed, but you would've felt that the car was going too fast round the corner and at what point it would lose grip. Plus you would have the responsibility of paying if you crashed.

I've driven the Nürburgring a few times in hired racecars. If you crash, you are effectively bankrupt, making sure that you don't push too hard and dont drive like an idiot.

In shooters it is slightly different though as the physics are different. You are walking, not driving but for example, you can't turn your head and look whats behind without moving your gun, which is unrealistic and wouldn'T make sense because you need screens all around.

They don'T try and make the gameplay too realistic with shooters, yet for some reason, in driving games they do. Really don't know why.

Sigh, gaming these days just doesn't interest me. All of the games I play on my computer are those of the DooM/Duke Nukem era and my PS2 is largely used for older playstation one games. I didn't get further than Gran Turismo 3 before holding my hands up and saying 'nomore!' to this modern crap.

The damage in ToCA race driver 3 is just nuts, they need to tone it down a bit, I think...

The realism is also daft, try turning on 'manual with clutch' gearing and its impossible to go anywhere without wrecking the gear box, how the hell is the L1 button supposed to simulate a clutch???

Haven't been on Race Driver 3 yet myself. I'd imagine (for the PC version at least) they put a manual with clutch working mainly for use with the steering wheels tat come with a clutch on the pedals...something I want to get

I'd quite like a steering wheel. I am gonna learn to drive soon so I might not want one after that ;)

Having learned to drive, I never went back to the steering wheel (although I might try and get another one like I used to have just for GTA:sA cos it's so fun with it), I much prefer using the controller and GT3 now because it's much more fun and has just the right amount of realism.
If I want proper realism, I go drive a real car, if I want to p*ss about or race people, I use a console because it's more fun and you're not f*cked if you crash.
