Nice to see people who are against one illegal activity are advocating criminal retribution...

Saying I'd like to do something and saying I intend do something are two different things!

Same difference as a metaphor and simile!

Just because I'd have a great time with a line of people like this caught red handed hung by the neck until dead, doesn't mean I have the rope in my garage ready to pull it off!

If we catch them in the act destroying things volunteer labour have created, why are official channels where they will get a paltry fine we won't see any of anyway any use whatsoever.

I personally would have no problem with them being killed outright, they're of no use to society.

Much like cable theft, if there wasn't the obvious safety implications and technical implications for genuine use, I'd have no problems with murdering every pikey who caused disruption to myself or anyone else including the equipments owner as a result by electric shock perfectly adjusted to be both fatal and painful.

Same old adage - if a rapist or a killer is released from prison, and then goes on to reoffend, if you execute them, they are absolutely guaranteed never to hurt another living soul or waste taxpayers money.

I agree that these people should be suitable punished, but the punishment should be proportional to the crime. Murdering some "pikey" for stealing some cable might be seen as a little draconian by some pople.

As for capital punishment, show me an infallible method of determining a persons guilt then I might consider it.

They make a conscious decision to steal.

They probably would be slightly more hesitant if the result was going to be certain death.

I can but dream.

As for the death penalty, I take your point but on the other hand multi offenders who are released and banged up again and again are a waste of life.

What for example is the point of keeping Peter Sutcliffe alive at the expense of the taxpayer?

He admitted what he did, and what he did was truly horrendous, so he's unlikely to ever leave prison.

Ergo, what's the point of his continued existance at the taxpayers expense?

Would you rather see a blank old bridge or a bridge that is being kept alive with colour and somthing productive, same goes to freight trains... long boring metal.. needs to be vibrant, wheather its a tag or a nice peice. those EWS freights seem so dull.. how nice is it to see some colour on them! Some of the best graffiti artists get their names on these! Serious!

As laudable as your sentiments might be, that is not the point.

The point quite simply is this. Trains, bridges, buildings or whatever you choose to paint belong to someone else. You have not been asked to come and add a splash of vibrancy or to showcase your "art", so no matter how creative, technical or pleasing a piece might be it shouldn't be there in the first place. This means that what you are advocating is criminal damage and trespass.

If you want to be artists, then have the bottle to do it properly. Get talking to people about showcasing your work rather than slapping it onto the sides of trains.

some great thougts here!!
TWO sides to every story. All i am saying is, please take the time to examine the work on the trains and on those dying bridges, alot of it is great artwork, colour schemes, letter proportion needs to be exact etc... I know most of the stuff looks bad but graffiti is an expensive expression for every graffiti "artist" not tagger. I love watching trains, clean and painted trains, i dont know anything about trains but am really starting to take notice!

Judging by your posts, I'm beginning to think that you may well be a graffiti vandal yourself?

Couldn't agree with you more! I bet these people wouldn't be happy if I or you went along and painted their property how we wanted it to be.

The same could be said about may benefit claimants :p

What happens if someone if found guilty of murder/stealing cable/whatever and subsequently executed but it later found innocent for whatever reason? Anyway, I think this has gone a bit off topic now...

Out of interest, what is your take on artists like Banksy?

Look at the broo ha-ha that took place when those idiots got run over and killed by a train at Barking.

People (fellow vandals) were signing up on forums to defend them.

The bleeding-heart liberals were rushing around trying to justify their vandalism as 'art', and so on and so on.

Provided what they do is done WITH APPROVAL from the owner of the property, train, car etc. on which it is painted, no problem.

After that, it doesn't matter if I like it, if it is art or otherwise.

What is REALLY offensive, is the TOTAL disregard by these people for the rights and liberties of their fellow man. Take that away from them and they would have no incentive to do what they do.

THAT goes for banksy too. He MAY be 'respectable' now, but how did HE start?

i am not a vandal, i have a massive interest in graffiti, i am a photographer who graduated last year with a 1st, my project was based around graffiti. what do it think of banksy? not a lot. he is a big head, he is not a good artists, anyone can make stencils, he is clever, the way he adresses the government but he is so overrated. i photographed an event in which he participated in, he made stencils while most of the other artists produced paintings. he used to be part of cct, an infamous bristol crew back in the early 90s, they kicked him out for un known reasons and then he become a stencil artist. they protect his work on the streets. is his work graffiti? yes it is aerosol, at first they said he was destroying london, supposedly he wrecked the southbank in 2000, now hes everywhere, the media love him. he is a celebrity, not a real artist, i dont have much respect for him.

anyway i want to close this argument.

If these so called artists were made to clean off there graffiti they would suddenly realise what work is. They would not be so keen to do that!!! If they had a job they would not have the time to vandalise every blank space they see. On saying that perhaps the real blank space is in their head.

craigmcp - look what some forking train companies have done to your house...

house_23.JPG

Oh, and they've smashed up your bog, pi$$ed on your sofa, pulled your telly apart and when you enter, they are going to rob you.

Bl00dy criminals, but at least all that lovely pink paint and the smart logos look nice.

I'd be upset being associated with something that's Northern ;)

I think people should learn how to use a spell checker before posting.

Is it just a coincidence that a thread about graffiti contains some of the most illiterate posts on the forum?

I like some graffiti. It's wrong and illegal, but some of it brightens my day.

None of that tagging crap, but when I see a piece of colourful, artistic piece of graffiti with a good message, then yeah, I think that's quite nice.

Same, some can really have talent, and other pieces of graffiti is just awful.

Definately.

And to graffiti is the best way for other people to see their art.

Well, no, but it's graffiti. It's going to be un-needed wherever it is.

Usually, the wronger the place, the more obvious and the more likely it is to be seen.

Oh dear. Vandals are deplorable, but I think it is far more deplorable to consider an illegal punishment for something which, in the scheme of things, is bad but not horrific.

How many people for example called for the death penalty a few years ago, on someone who has since been found innocent? Look at Barry George, as an example.

Some things are pretty wrong, and downright dangerous though.

Take a look at this video. Imagine how long that all took to clear up, and how threatened the driver must have been when they started attacking the cab and his train. And that blowtorch (3.45mi) is downright dangerous, especially underground & when you consider many Berlin U-Bahn stations are unstaffed (even underground).

i have alot of respect for trainspotters, even though when i tell friends i am interested in trains n stuff they say how sad you must be to watch trains pass and write down numbers. most people would probebly say the same thing, how boring, you must have such a rubbish life to do that all day.

i was after a mature debate, i didnt realise it would turn so bitter and pathetic.
