Govia 'Protected Trains'

Hi All

Many moons ago working at Govia - I caught a glimpse of something on their Tyrell System of "Protected Trains"...

It crossed my mind this morning while reading something...

By that definition - What does it mean?

My guess would be that it refers to key services that would result in BadThings happening were they to be cancelled or shortformed.

Sure it wasn’t a reference to an operational situation where a failed train was ‘protected’ by detonators before an assisting train was called forward?

I'd agree with this, trains could have that status for various reasons. Could even be a strategically important ECS move because it contains that stock for many other services (albeit unlikely kin that part of the world) or has several drivers who MUST pass on it otherwise their next workings are snookered.

It's more so internal guidance... 'protect' this train and it is important, so sacrifice something else (cancel, short form, run fast) as this train must run and run as planned. Could even be a local high profile train that the local user groups of even those more influential keep a keen eye on.

Politically sensitive trains that cause MPs to receive strongly worded comments on Twitter if they get cancelled.
Trains which form the above.
Trains which have lots of passing crews on them or otherwise cause a lot of knock-on disruption if they get cancelled.

I believe that there was a list of protected services that GTR agreed with the local rail user groups on the Cambridge branch. They are mainly the key stopper services that are used for travel to/from schools and the village stations. These services should always call at all stations wherever possible.
