Hi all. On Sunday 7th March 2010 I visited Gourock station to capture photographs of how the station looks at present before any heavy and major construction work begins on the station's refurbishment project. The project started on Wednesday 3rd March 2010. The refurbishment project is being carried out by Network Rail with a completion date of November 2010 / early 2011. Below is the link to the Network Rail media report regarding the start of the refurbishment project:

S.P.T. Rail and S.P.T. Ferry signs are seen at Gourock station. The refurbishment project will benefit passengers using both the ferry terminal and / or train station. A walkway will be built from the station (platform 1) to here which will be glazed for sea views as part of the project:

From left to right, Class 334 040, 009 and 021 are all seen sitting bathing in the sun whilst sitting stabled. The blue and white pillars which stretch out across platforms 1 - 3 will be replaced with a new roof canopy as part of the project:

A passenger awaits his train into Glasgow (13.23 service from platform 1) in the station concourse, a concourse that will be given a fresh and much more modern look than at present as part of the refurbishment project:

A busy Sunday afternoon was seen at Gourock station during my short stay. Here passengers are seen walking in the concourse area, having just came off an early afternoon service from Glasgow Central High Level:

Passengers who came off the Helensburgh / Kilcreggan - Gourock S.P.T. Ferry service are seen making there way through platform 1 to board the 13.23 train service to Glasgow. The Ferry - Rail / Rail - Ferry interchange here is a vital and popular transport link:

I will be following progress of the station on a regular basis so many more updates to come over the the next days and months this year / early 2011 upon completion of the project!

Best Regards

Jonathan McGurk
