Travel and Tourism student James Connelly is aiming to break a world record for the biggest collection of United Kingdom rail tickets.
James, 17, from Huddersfield, is aiming to collect 163,235 train tickets, with an interim target of 10,000 by the end of the year. Currently the student has collected 6,953 and is requesting help from fellow college students and staff members to increase his collection. Collection boxes will be placed in reception at the colleges Old Mill Lane and Honeywell Campuses for students to post their tickets in support of James and his venture.
James said: I have always been interested in Travel and Tourism. I wanted to break this record when I heard train tickets were going to be phased out soon and would be replaced with a paper receipt.
Clair Victory, Course Leader of Travel and Tourism at Barnsley College, said: It is really nice to see our students setting themselves life goals especially when they are linked to the industry they wish to work in. James is interested in the rail industry and hopes to travel in the future, so he can explore different types of locomotives around the world. We will do all we can to support James with his challenge and wish him the best of luck.
