Does anyone else find the Google ads slowing their system down? They seem to be getting more and more complex and taking longer to load. They've caused my computer to hang up on several occasions and it's a fast machine with a lot of memory.

It's not just on this site, it's on Yahoo email as well.

I suppose we're stuck with them though if we want things to remain free. If anyone knows how to stop them animating or even get rid of them I'd love to hear.

I have noticed that if my internet connection is having a slow day, then the pages normally hang up whilst trying to load the adverts.

When I used Internet Explorer, I used to come on here and it would freeze as it couldn't load the ads - it used to take me 5 mins + to get from logging on to viewing a thread :|. Google Chrome is way better though, not a problem with it yet.

I know this won't go down to well but I used to have loads of problems with this site when I first joined, I tried every browser under the sun but still so slow, I had no choice but to download and install an adblocker on my favourite browser. I now have no problems.

Have you tried using the other styles such as the plain background?

Please do not use Adblock else the forum will close down.

Sorry mojo, I tried literally everything within my control at the time. What I'll try now is to block this site from the adblocker and report back.

I have never had any issues with the ads slowing things down. Currently using Firefox 5.0 and ads don't cause me any problems at all :s

Agreed. I've whitelisted this site. Text ads really aren't that annoying either IMO.

Flashblock is still in force which stops the flash ads from loading since a great man once said:
the choice was between image or text ads. Image ads do make more money, and there are more of them so there is a better chance of an advert appearing at all...

Since then, they have added Flash ads, but the options haven't changed, so the option is text and image.

Thread the quote is from

No problems here on Firefox 8.0a1 although I have put the cache in /tmp which is stored in RAM on my machine so that could be speeding up the load times.
