Good value online train tickets

I live in a rural location, and my train journets often start some distance away from a station with a ticket.

I went onto red spotted hanky, which I have always used, and now find to have them delivered by post costs £10!

I went onto my local train comany, and they wanted £5 delivery

What is now, the best website for train tickets? I normally pay with a credit card, which is also annoying as some add onto the price of the tickets a handling fee!

RSH will still deliver for free provided there's enough time before your travel otherwise they'll charge for next day delivery. What was the date you wanted your tickets for?

East Coast. last I knew delivery is free (when 1st journey in booking commences from a ticket without facilities to collect tickets e.g. Poppleton - which is useful for any York residents wanting free delivery )

East Coast charge £1.00 for postage but that is often offset by an online discount.
ScotRail and FirstTranspennine both offer free 1st Class post, and there are probably others.

It certainly sounds like you've left it too late for normal 1st class post. Your best bet now is TOD at the first station if that is available. AFAIK that option is always free.

Have you tried the EC website?

If you regularly make transactions of £22 or more, it's worth joining their Rewards scheme too.

Not necessarily with XC - they have a habit of charging unless you use Print@Home

Of course! I forgot about the lack of XC owned TVMs which means they have to pay printing fees for all TOD transactions.

It seems they want a week. They'll post for Monday 7th, not before.

Perverse considering that London Overground's website doesn't even sell tickets (not to mention their drive to get rid of paper tickets) yet their TVMs do TOD.

Perhaps TOD charges should be nationally limited to cost price?

I didn't know that - explains why they always want to charge me £1. (At least they are decent enough to give Reward Points on the postage as well).

I really should stick to commenting on things I know about (not much and very boring).
