Good, Cheap hotels in Edinburgh

Hi

Does anyone know of any good cheap hotels in Edinburgh as they all seem quite expensive!

Any help is greatly appreciated

Have you tried Travelodge's as there are quite a few - however I often feel wrong asking the staff for something like extra pillows etc... as often ( at the less major lodges ) there is only one member of staff working on the evening check-in time who does everything.

Providing you specify many months in advance then you can get Travelodges for £29 or so, on unpopular days (ie not Friday/Saturday nights). Edinburgh isn't one of the cheaper ones by any means.

The Jurys Inn is cheap and is ok, directly overlooking Waverley station. Nice view of the trains during the day although at night theres a intrusive humming/buzzing noise which I'm sure came from the station itself, which actually kept me awake!

For a large, modern, chain-operated but inexpensive hotel, try Express by Holiday Inn at Ocean Terminal, Leith.
For a quirky, private (rooms over the pub), but innexpensive out-of-town B&B, try the Stags Head at South Queensferry (train to Dalmeny) and ask for the room with the view of the Forth Bridges.

Thanks, although due to the early start for the XC HST, I might go with the Travelodge because its near Waverley

Ocean Terminal is only 10-15 minutes from the city and you will never have to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus between it and Waverley (and you'll only have to wait that long between midnight and 6am).

Indeed, and if you get the 22 in the peak, there's one every minute

It'll likely take about 20 mins on the 22, but you have a choice of buses. Although the 22 is the most reliable (due to the number of buses on it), and it has the newest buses

You can get the 22 from the North side of the station, the 35 from the South end of North Bridge (The one over the station), or the 10, 11 or 16, which you can get from the North side of the station, and which stop about a 5 minute walk from OT and the Holiday Inn.

One thing I like with the 35 is that it (mostly) uses ex airlink Tridents (because it runs from OT to the airport) so they have lots of luggage space and one bay of seats with a table upstairs


Sometimes you'll get a Gemini on it though (I think there's at least one out on it each day atm - Lothian have a few little oddities like that), which don't have the larger luggage space or table

They mostly seem to come in groups of 2 or 3 at a time when in the city.

Last time I was on the 22, I was on 334, and it was basically racing with 340 the whole way
